Wow that's really weird.. something that I would have never known. I guess my dog could be considered an Alaskan Husky then, there are times where she'll run all day.

And he says that they use all Alaskan Huskies for racing, some people claim that Steele was an Alaskan husky... referring it to a pure breed of dog. NOTT!!!! An Alaskan husky is a mutt, a mix of several dogs. a musher may breed several dogs together, like a golden retreiver for a better coat to withstand the elements, a geman shepherd for strength, a greyhound for speed, and a Siberian husky for the desire to run. Also, an Alaskan husky can be any dog with the desire to run! (your chihuahua could be referred to an Alaskan Husky if he/she liked to run a lot.)

This is just FYI

Wow, I didn't know that. Though, Alaskan Huskies are very beautiful. My fianee has one (her name is Suzie) and she thinks that she's the tiniest dog in the world, a lap pup! And she's like, uber-heavy. XD

But, they are good dogs. There isn't a LOT wrong with them.

Wow, I'm surprised that this is new information to some of you.
I'm not being rude or anything, but I thought people did research on things they liked or are interested in.

This is NOTHING new to me. xD Lol, I am always on this dog site with dog experts. Thanks to them, I know alot, and I do research on breeds when I am bored, or in the mood to learn more about a breed I really like. Right now, I am on German Shepherd Dogs.
------

Alaskan Husky - It falls short of being a breed in that there is no preferred type and no restriction as to ancestry; it is defined only by its purpose, which is that of a highly efficient sled dog.

That said, dog drivers usually distinguish between the Alaskan Husky and “hound crosses”.

The Alaskan Husky is derived from a mix of northern types, most notably the Siberian husky. It is not considered to be a wolfdog, although distant wolf ancestry is quite visible in several features of many Alaskan Huskies.

------
My Rottweiler runs all day, or well, alot. But I'll never consider him as an Alaskan Husky. He is not a mix of hound/husky, or mix of northen types.

From the pictures I saw in one of my dog breed books, I thought they looked pretty strange and like really skinny huskies... but from looking at them on Google Images they are quite pretty. Pretty like any crossbreed though, they certainly don't look pure.

That's true, that's the MEANING of the word husky. Siberian Huskys are a seperate breed though.

True, they are "impure."

BUT, they are NOT skinny. Suzie (my Alaskan Husky) has a MASSIVE build.
Rotts? No, no specification with huskies at ALL unless it's a hybrid. My Rott/Shepherd mix (Sara) is old, but she is in no way considered a northern breed... .

I do agree with all of you though.
But, again, they're not at all skinny.

You have a Rottweiler?! Why didn't I know this?

An Alaskan Husky isn't just a dog who likes to run. My Golden Retriever likes to run - nearly ALL dogs like to run - does this make them all Alaskan Huskies?
An Alaskan Husky is, as Balto Wolfdog said, a mix of northern breeds - usually Huskies. A Golden Retriever x Lab, for example, isn't an Alaskan Husky xD

In all honesty, are any breeds really pure? These so called 'purebreds' are just a combonation of other dogs. Over time, selective breeding made them into the different breeds we see today. Man just took the original dog breeds (EX: Pharoah hounds and Caanan dogs) and mixed them with wolves and coyotes. So technically, 90% of dogs are mutts XD
