A New Beginning
I guess I was a pretty lucky pup to have been adopted by a woman who was a millionaire; I grew up in her mansion and in the first days would often get lost in it. It was a one in a million chance that a nice old lady would accept a wolf Doberman hybrid into her mansion. I was given a pink diamond studded collar and enjoyed my stay in the house, my human’s family moved in during my first year and I bonded with the children almost as much as I had with my human.
Not all good things can last forever though, if only I had known that, then I would have been prepared… I have no idea how long ago it happened, I’ve lost count, all I know is that ever since that night my life was never the same. Because of that night I realized my true nature and what I was born to be, no matter how much it hurt.
I heaved a deep sigh as I rested my head on my paws, staring straight into the crackling fire I lay next to my human’s velvet chair. I blinked lazily as my human who I knew as Nana rested her hand on my head while she stared continuously at a pile of papers in her lap. Occasionally a page would turn and that was when her hand was lifted and I awaited its return.
Eventually she would stand and walk to the elevator to ride it up to her room on the third story of our home. I would follow her all the way and stand outside her bathroom door as she changed and prepared to sleep. Then she would come out, hand me a small treat and lie down in her queen-sized bed and stare at a picture of a man in a golden heart frame on the side table next to her bed. Soon she would turn off her lamp and pull the covers up to sleep. Once she was asleep I would do my rounds covering the whole house, making sure everything was in it’s place and that everyone, Nana and her family were in their beds. Once I was confident that everything was fine and everyone was safe and where they should be, I would return quietly to Nana’s room. I would slip through the doggy door, which could be found on any door in the house for my convenience, and sit next to her bed. Once I heard her deep breathing telling me that Nana was asleep I would climb carefully into her bed and curl up next to her for the night.
But this night was different… As always I lay by the velvet chair gazing into the fire while Nana stared at her papers. I felt her hand lift from my head and I stood with a yawn ready to follow her to the elevator and then to bed. Nana stood frozen to her spot, I looked up at her curious about why she wasn’t following our schedule as she normally did. I froze when I saw the immense fear and confusion in her eyes; she fell suddenly to the floor just in front of the fire but out of the flame’s reach.
I let out a surprised bark as her head hit the ground right in front of me. I sniffed at her and she reached for me before her hand fell limp. Her eyes moved randomly in every direction imaginable, it was as if some unknown force was controlling them. Her lips glistened with drool as she gasped as if she couldn’t breath. There I stood terrified as I watched Nana my best friend suffering in front of me.
Move!
I ordered myself. My brain was commanding but my paws seemed to be glued to the spot, why couldn’t I move? I bowed my head down towards her not sure what to do. I almost jumped back as her hand shot up and grabbed onto my collar. I listened to her gasping franticly, but I couldn’t understand a word.
“Kalla!”
She managed to half gasp half shout. That snapped me out of it, Nana needed me and here I was just standing next to her watching her suffering. What could I do though? I knew what to do immediately, instinctively I knew there was nothing I could do for her, but maybe the rest of the family would know.
My loyalty though wouldn’t allow me to move from Nana’s side, how would I contact the family? Without thinking I threw back my head and let out a long wolf-like howl, one for help. After that I barked and jumped around the room trying to make as much noise as I could, I needed to family to hear me, no Nana needed them to hear me.

I like this. I enjoy your writing style alot; how interesting, it reminds me of my style. I enjoy this already! Keep going, I think this has a chance to be a very good fic, and I don't say things like that lightly. Sure, I'll say if I like something or not, but this seems to really have some potential.

Sorry it took so long to respond, here is another part.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I breathed a sigh of relief as I heard footsteps approaching, and the family, children and all appeared with worried expressions on their faces. At the sight of Nana suffering on the floor they rushed forward. The man kneeled down next to Nana then shouted something about a phone to the woman. The children just stood not understanding what was happening. The woman rushed off towards the kitchen and I heard her talking rapidly before running back in to help the man.
Before long I whimpered from fear as I heard loud screams from outside and the woman ran and unlocked the door letting some men wheeling a long white bed into the house. I backed away with my ears flattened and teeth showing as they approached Nana. The man and one of the older boys from the four children held me back by my collar. Maybe they had let these people in the help Nana, they released my collar when I sat down. I was still keeping a close eye on the strange men.
They placed Nana onto the bed carefully and wheeled her out the door, the family followed and I was hot on their heels. The man stopped at the open door letting his wife and kids out first, but he blocked the entrance for me.
“No Kalla, stay.” He ordered before closing the door.
I stood at the door for a while, shocked at what had just happened. Nana had been taken away and I was left behind. I tilted my head, I had never left Nana’s side for very long before and I was sure they must have been returning soon, at least I hoped so. Nana would be fine, as soon as they returned Nana would come and invite me up into her bed for the rest of the night. Or maybe she would play fetch with me, she may not have been able to throw very far but it was always fun for both of us to even attempt to play together. I thought about the joy of Nana returning and spending time with me.
I sat by the door waiting for a few hours for the family to return with Nana. I yawned and my eyes grew droopy as dim light filtered in from the rising sun through the window next to the door. I dragged some pillows and a cushion from the couch to the door a laid it just below the window so I could look out if I wanted to.
I checked outside again by jumping up and placing my front paws on the window ceil for balance. Nope, still no sign of Nana or the family. I yawned again and lowered myself back down onto the cushion; I curled up into a tight ball. I wasn’t used to sleeping without the sound of Nana’s breathing beside me. I shifted my position trying to get comfortable even though the sun was rising and daytime would be soon.
As I drifted into sleep I thought about the moment when Nana would return and we would catch up on our daily schedule. Everything would have its balance restored and things like this would never happen again.
Somewhere in my heart though, I knew that would never be. I knew somewhere deep down that as I closed my eyes to sleep, Nana was doing the same. Though unlike me, Nana would never open hers again.
That night Nana died peacefully in her sleep. She had been placed on life support after calming down from her stroke and her family decided there was nothing else that could be done so the life support was shut down. I didn’t know that consciously, I wish I had, then I would have left or been more prepared for what happened next.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is probably the last part I will post untill it's done. Should I continue?
