Ash's cold green eyes opened suddenly. She rose and walked out of the small hole in the old hollowed-out tree. Ash had decided to bunk there tonight. She sat down and stared up at the starry sky. She watched as a cloud drifted over the almost full moon.

Ash lay down and thought of the past weeks: "Get out! Leave! And dont you EVER come back!" she still recalled the haunting shouts of her "family" as she ran, crying, from her den, only 8 months old. She hadnt done anything wrong... they just didnt like her... She had been playing with her only feind- her brother, Slade, when they got a little too rough. he acidentally clawed her face and she got balmed. Her creul father, BlackKnight, said she was too rough..said she was hurting her brother and thats why he clawed her. Ash tred to tell him they were just playing, but he whacked her with his paw and she slid across the dusty floor. She rose and ran-ran away-fast.

As she reached present-day, she shut her tear filled eyes. Ash had vowed to herself that she would be a loner until she could find a family that would accept her. She rose and walked back into her tree. Ash shut her eyes and thought. She needed a new name....but not now...tommorrow... Just before she drifted off to sleep she thought, 'Outcast... Im their outcast...'

Ash woke with a stir-she heard someone out there. "Hello...?" she asked shakily. She received no reply and got up. She sat up straight and pricked her ears ,listening intently. Ash decided if she was going to give herself a new name, now was the time. Shade? No, too plain. ShadeDeath? Too creepy. Shadow? Perfect.
