Any day now, the Bush-Cheney Administration could sanction the largest massacre of wolves to occur in the lower 48 states in decades. Governments in Idaho and Wyoming are preparing to make it happen. If you’ve never donated before, now is the time to make a difference! Make an emergency donation to stop the slaughter today!

I received this in an email this morning. Wolves have just recently been taken off of the endangered species list, and are now in great danger of depleting in there numbers worse then ever before. The Bush-Cheney Administration lays out the near future to be "An all year hunting season on wolves." Yes I know this seems hard to believe, but Idaho Governor “Butch” Otter himself told the crowd, "I'm prepared to bid for that first ticket to shoot a wolf myself." He then endorsed a plan to kill 54 of the state’s 65 packs -- over 80 percent of the state’s wolves.

WHAT!!! HOW CAN THEY EVEN DARE..... But wolves are Gods creations! All life should be valued.... all life is a gift! It's sacred! From the tinyest ant to the largest whale, every animal has a living and breathing sole, just like people! ..... I don't think I can fully explain the point I am trying to make... it's so hard to explain.... but some of you might know what I mean...(forgive me if you are not Christian... this counts for whatever "God" you believe in) *snarls bitterly* NO ONE knows what honor IS anymore! :wangry: cryeyesout.gif (don't get me wrong, people here do... just... most people don't)

It's up the state government to regulate these things, it's not Bush saying it's ok for these things. The Bald Eagle was taken off the list and the numbers are fine.

I'm very sure that there is some good reason behind it, Seasons for hunting animals is good because it means that they are producing enough offspring for this to happen.

An all season hunting spree is not good because if they endorse this too much people will just go out killing, populations need to be watched and kept in check but take away the wolfs and the deer will take over, and eat all the food they can eat. This will cause other animals to start decreacing in numbers.

It's a Sour/sweet moment. One side wolfs are producing enough to get off the endangered list, but on the other side people cant wait to hunt.

But there is another topic that is pretty much the samething.

Bruno---> Though you may face jail time, poaching and over-hunting are a federal crime. At least, last I knew they were.
Now, as I said in the sb, There is NOTHING against hunting to keep population under control. Coyoties in Illinois are getting bad, and you can't hunt them. What happens then? People have to put down domesticated animals due to fights with coyoties or diseases FROM with small canines. Now, I have heard people talk about poaching them and it upsets me, because I am Native American and Coyoties are VERY important in my culture (i.e. spiritual).

So, hunting is NOt wrong; the wrong thing is over-hunting/poaching. Hunting is within the circle of life, and cannot be stopped. If we stopped hunting and slaughtering; we would lose a LOT of essential nutrients found in meat. Soy does not take place of what would be lost...

I disagree with any animal killing and im afraid if I state my arguement it'll cause issues here. SO i'll just leave it at I don't think killing is an answer to ANYTHING.

Wolf pack hunting needs to be subject to regulations. There are people who's interests are at stake here, i.e those people who use the land for beef cattle production. Now, whether or not there is an approved wolf-hunt or not does not preclude the possiblity that these people will simply use the well-documented "shoot and shovel" method of controling the population of wolves by themselves. In order to keep this poaching to a minimum, the "Bush/Cheney" administration has decided to open hunting to people in Idaho. I think it's funny that you attempt to blame Bush for this, for whatever his other faults, he has no control over the hunting regulations in any state. Hunting on National Refuges is controled by the US Fish and Wildlife Service and state hunting regulations are up to the states themselves. So, regardless of what other problems he may or may not have caused, depending on your political beliefs, Bush or Cheney did not have anything to do with this.

In conclusion, hunting is a part of life in America. No one is advocating the mass slaughter of millions of wolves until they are extinct. As are many animals open for hunting these days, there will no doubt be restrictions on the number of animals that you can kill, times you can kill them, etc. In all, I don't think this is going to be a national tragedy that will end wolf life as we know it.

On another, slightly sarcastic note, White Wolf, I would assume that one reason why the Bald Eagle population hasn't gone down at all is because it is a federal crime to kill, sell, or otherwise harm a Bald or Golden Eagle in the United States.

The bald eagle will continue to be protected by the Bald and Golden
Eagle Protection Act if it is delisted under the Endangered Species
Act. This law, originally passed in 1940, provides for the protection of
the bald eagle and the golden eagle (as amended in 1962) by prohibiting
the take, possession, sale, purchase, barter, offer to sell, purchase
or barter, transport, export or import, of any bald or golden eagle,
alive or dead, including any part, nest, or egg, unless allowed by
permit (16U.S.C 668(a); 50 CFR 22). “Take” includes pursue, shoot,
shoot at, poison, wound, kill, capture, trap, collect, molest or disturb
(16U.S.C. 688(c); 50 CFR 22.3). A violation of the Act can result in a fine of $100,000 ($200,000 for organization), imprisonment for one year, or both for a first offense. Penalties increase greatly for additional offenses. A second violation of this Act is a felony, and can result in fines of up to $250,000 for individuals ($500,000 for organization). Rewards are provided for information leading to arrest and conviction for violation of the Act.

I agree with Kirada. Hunting isn't all wrong. I mean, animals do it... why can't people... but over hunting is bad. But us humans have wedged ourselves into the balance of nature. We killed all the wolves and now the pupulations for things sucj as deer have gone up... forcing us to be the ones to keep the populations under control. But we are going to drive wolves right back to the endangered list if this goes on! It's HORRIBLE!! It's like... it's like the holocaust, just with animals!

Yeah I got it last night. I know it sounds bad when we personalize certian animals. Yeah... I guess you can't go to any extreme, overpopulation will cause anything to colapse. Oh and I checked right now and they need about 95,000. I think people are afraid that the wolf people will be sedtoryed. As a personal opion, I think human activties seem to drive the Ecological and enviromental balance to extreems its already happning.

Great.... just when it builds up its going to be nailed. Why do people do this?

Hunting for food is what animals do. The type that people do is for pleasure which is no excuse for me.

I personally doubt that "pure" wolves will be here forever. Nothing will. Hunting is life, though humans being blood-thirsty and greedy over-hunt, causing MORE problems.

Yes, hunting IS wrong, but in other ways it's NOT wrong... Please, do know where I come from with this. We are ALL animals and animals eat each other to survive.

If you were to stop hunting, you're basically saying "Stop eating meat!" Then what? Everyone becomes herbivores? THEN there would be a problem of not enough crops or not enough crop lands...

You cannot stop nature, but you can limit hunting.

Yep. Because no matter how good something is, it ends sometime. That's life, and there's nothing we can do...
