I'm not shure. But I think its llegal to rip a DVD for music vidieos, but If you were ripping it and and made a advertisement without permition from universal and put it on air, that would be illegal.

TikTac is right. You can make music vids with the rip DVDs, not sell them

I don't think so..

Why would be illegal ripping?I guess there's no person who isn't doing this..
As TikTak said about illegality...(It's illegal if you'll use it for selling).
So I say not...

Is this a random question? ( I know that you allready asked me trough PM XD I gave a clowny answer^^')

Depends on where you live...
I don't know about the american laws. BUT, in France, it IS illegal to rip a dvd, or bypass ANY protection on CDs or DVDs. There has been a very recent law (DAVDSI law) that doesn't allow anymore this kind of thing...

As long as it is a private copy, maybe. But I don't think it's legal anywhere to do this if you don't own the original. (except for China, maybe  )

As far as I know, here in the US, you are llowed to burn CDs, rip DVDs and the like, as long as you don't sell them, give multiple copies away, etc.

So I think it's legal to rip, but don't give the copy to anyone.. Also, as Steet said, it depends on where you're from.

I'm not sure about that, most people I know just rent them & rip them, so atleast they're paying.. sorta. But download them from a program like Limewire gives you poor-quality DVD's anyway, so it's much better to just pay. XD

I HAVE been to a yard sale where they were selling copied VHS's, so I guess if you rip a DVD without knowing it's illegal, then you shouldn't be in too much trouble.. XD

yeah... we've made copies of films for our younger cousins, but that was only for them, so... I would just go ahead and do it... plenty of others have, and as long as you give copyright notices, I don't think it will matter.

it seems to me dvd ripping is illegal if you are going to make a music video according to the DMCA I have been trying to get some answers and the ones I have been finding point to that it is legal to rip a DVD if you lose the orginal copy but if you rip it for a music video even if it is a fan creation and you have the copyrights it is still illegal
