“But…Why?!” Abby exclaimed in a questionable manor. “I thought we…had something special…”
“I know but…Things aren’t working out for me.” Ghost, a male malamute, said in a soft and eager voice.
“We can work things out!” Abby pleaded. “We-”
“No, Abby, we’re done, it’s over and it will never be…again.” Ghost argued
“But-”
“Abby, I don’t want to hear it!” Ghost scolded “We need to go our separate ways….You know…for good. It would be best if I was on my own.”
Abby lowered her head and stared down at the frost under their paws. She very badly wanted to be with Ghost and it was even hard for her to look at the bent grass where he had stepped.
“But…”
Abby’s head shot up. “Yeah?”
“We could still be friends…If that’s ok.”
Abby shook her head and lowered it once more. “I don’t know.” She quietly said.
“I’m sorry Abby.”
“Yeah, me to.” Abby murmured
“I-I have to go.” Ghost said and backed away. After a few steps he ran off and like that, he was gone. Abby, left alone, stood there in the bitter coldness of Anchorage, Alaska. Tears formed in her eyes but then never seemed to drip but instead, freeze in her eyes. Abby tried to move but her body seemed frozen. Everything seemed to shut down and go to sleep. Like a lifeless statue waiting for a bird, Abby waited for her ex-lover to come back and greet her like he always had.
She gave him her heart and he gave it back. She’ll never get over him walking away. She stood there and waited for about a half hour before walking to her home. She walked slowly with her head hanging low to the ground. Her tail dragged and her eyes fogged with tears. Ice seemed to break off her legs with each step.
Once she had come to her house she raised her head and studied the wooden building. A two-story house screaming “Paint me”. Abby shook her head with a sigh and walked through the doggy door.
She clumsily walked over to her large pillow by the fireplace. She shook off the snow and made her self comfortable. The ling noise from the fire always made Abby kind of tired. Her eyes drooped and soon closed completely. With a large and mournful sigh she had fallen sound asleep.
Her dreams had disappeared, her wings had broken and her ability to live had run away. As the day went on Abby found herself becoming very depressed.
“Come on Lacey eat your food.” Joey pleaded while pushing her food and water dish under her nose. Abby didn’t move. Instead she lay there on her pillow and looked into Joey’s eyes. The desperation in Joey’s eyes was Abby even more. But, she refused to eat.
“Joey, honey, what are you doing.” His mother asked while walking into the living room.
Joey quickly looked behind him then back to Abby. “Its Lacey she’s not eating.”
Joey’s mom put her hand on his shoulder. “She’s probably not hungry.” She said “Come on into the kitchen and finish your homework. She’ll eat when she’s hungry.”
Joey looked up and his mom then to Abby once more. “Ok mom.” She sighed and stood up then walked into the kitchen.
Abby shut her eyes once more.
