I think there should be a spell check for us because when I read some of the fanfics, I don't understand what they say beacause it's mispelled.

Well...It would be difficult to ingrate such a thing. Besides, people need to do that check themselves, because the automatic correctors are far from perfect.
And I think the main problem is not exactly the spelling, but the fact that these people only know to write in SMS style. Maybe we just shouldn't accept them, but maybe that would be too strict either.

And if they don't...well, I suggest that they do use it (if possible), because that'll make the situation a lot easier. But as for articles and the forum, a spell check is kind of out of the question. It would be pretty impossible to set up.
Here's what I do when I don't know how to spell a word. I open up Microsoft Word and type in how I think it's spelled. If it's spelled incorrectly, Word will put a red line underneath it (or sometimes automatically fix it to what it should be), and if it's spelled correctly, it won't do anything. I'd suggest that to anyone having spelling problems.
Word has it and also Internet Explorer and FireFox (if you have the Google toolbar installed). There's a special option "ABC Check"

And it's built in Firefox 2.0, you only need to add dictionnaries.

I don't think Steet meant SMS language shouldn't be accepted. I think he meant that articles that are spelt too poorly shouldn't be accepted. That may be harsh but, it might be a good idea because what's the point of having an article that no one can understand?

How true this is. I'm not the world's best speller, but even I don't make that many mistakes. When I have to read though a post 2 or 3 times to decifer what is being said, that's way too much. I think that one problem is that there are some people on here writing in English, even though that is not a language they are very good at. That is just something one has to accept and muddle though. However, at the very least, the native speakers should make a bit of a better showing, with some grammar, punctuation, and the like. Really, it's not that hard and makes it much more entertaining for the reader.
