It is a little sad, but I suppose the person should have thought twice before letting the 5 year old (I'm assuming) play rough with it, or even play around it for that matter. 5 year olds are old enough to understand the dangerous things dogs [Not just pitbulls, any dogs!] will do to them if they piss them off, heck..I wouldn't let a little girl pull my hair or climb on me..
I agree with Balto Wolfdog, it's always pitbulls getting blamed..My dog is a pitbull crossed with a rottweiler OR a doberman (We don't know which one yet) and wouldn't hurt a fly! [Literally]
Here's what I think happened, or something like this:
The grandma was probably busy doing something, like watching TV or cooking, the little girl probably got bored and went to go play with the dog. (Err.."Play." Remember she is a little girl so was probably playing rough.) The pitbull had enough and attacked her, the grandma came in and scoleded the pitbull (Holding it's muzzle..Yelling..Hitting it's head..) And it attacked her too..
I could be right, and I could be way off..but it makes sence..
Edit: Aluewolf, he might have growled at her as a warning, but she's little..she wouldn't know what it means. Still, the dog is not FULLY to blame..

Bull ****.
And how do you know? They hardly said ANYTHING about it. I know of a LABRADOR RETRIEVER and a mix of lab and golden that NEARLY attacked me, just for walking by while I met a pit bull pure bred that day who only rolled on her back, wagging her tail and let me pat her everywhere.
And I know of another pit bull and many more who NEVER attacked, and is around children all the time and another pit bull who lets EVERYONE do ANYTHING to em, and never even growls. Saying pit bulls shouldn't be trusted, because of TV?
So, if they said we were really aliens, are you going to believe them?
And yes, the girl is only five and I bet she don't know how to behave around a dog.
ANY dog can attack, and growl, no matter what. Not just pit bulls, but any dog. No big dog like that should be around a five year old anyways, INCLUDING golden retrievers and labs.
EDIT: And yes, it's very sad for the little girl to get killed. I am just tired of hearing pit bull this, that, and this. ._. If you go on a site such as Furry paws, then you'll learn alot about dogs.

When my sister was little she got attacked by a German Shepherd, it was in it's back yard and she was walking past with my mom, and I guess it stuck it's head out where there were two peices of wood missing, and just bit her. I haven't been able to get a dog until now, but she's not scared of them anymore..

No one ever said you said Bull ****. /I/ was the one who said.... But whatever.
No, it said nothing WHAT so ever about the reason why she got attacked.
I read it all. No reason, just mainly that she got attacked - bleh bleh. If you wanna think pit bulls are monsters, then that is YOUR problem and I am not going to fight about it anymore.

And about the german shepherd thing, perhaps the dog is just over-protective or whatever? Or seen her as a threat?

There was a pitt bull that attacked 3 children here in DC about a week ago. Just something else that will fuel the fire of banning the breed here in the VA and the DC area. Right now the law here prohibits banning a breed but I'm sure that will change soon with all the bad publicity irresponsible owners are giving them. It's just because of the bad reputation that the pitt bulls have why that is what most attacks you hear of.
Most attacks are provoke but there are plenty of cases that they aren't. I've seen plenty of cases in my job that involved unprovoked dog attacks. The vast majority are pitt bulls unfortunately.
This topic has been fought over many times on here and we're never all going to agree on this topic. Once owners give up on this breed as fighting dogs, and guard dogs then this bad reputation and mauling will may slow. But until then it's going to continue It's happened to breeds in the past and it will happen to other breeds in the future. Simple as that. Let's just agree to disagree, unfortunately.
