Alright... I've been searching and searching for a style of my own. It's still a work in progress but I need your help, I am completely open for suggestions. Keep in mind though that I'm looking for a realistic style.

I see the only way to really tell is if you compare it to a picture of a wolf. If you want realistic, you can't get much more realistic than a real wolf.

I would say that Realisticly, wolves have very small eyes compared to their faces. The body must be more thick and not so humanized by adding waists. Neither do they have very obvious necks. The snout should be bigger if you want realism, and the tail smaller, wolf tails are sparse.

These are the obvious things, with practice comes the ability of getting what you want!

Hmm, I agree that you should try longer snouts. This is probally the most realistic i've done...That is on MS paint. I use real pictures of wolves in my latest drawings that is. On that one I didn't go crazy with the ruffles as my other drawing of Neketa
I'd say use more shading on your coats. Your ears look the right size. I also think you should make the waist or tummy a little more thicker. Sorry, i'm not that great of a drawer and i'm bad at giving pointers...Maybe make the legs a little more thinner as well.

Thanks guys... I guess I didn't word what I meant by realistic well. I guess I don't mean that realistic... Just not cartoony (Like Dragondrawer)

Hmm, Dragondrawers art is pretty realistic in some pictures, =P Even with the cartoon eyes, most people would consider it a more realistic style.

I didn't mean that as a bad thing. But I think his style is quite cartoony!

XD I never thought you thought it was a bad thing. Cartoony is a style, and you have to judge it accordingly. Like I said before, =p It's a cartoony style but it still has realism to it.

Ok let's see I found this pic now let's compare...

Image

here's a few I know out of memory

-Wolves have no waist
-short tail
-wavy/soft curves
-the back legs go all the way to the top then the tail appears
-on the left side of the back legs instead of going over the stomach they level it and sink
-the paws are different on male and female having an imaginary 60 degree angle, this angle is larger in male and smaller in female.
-on the front part of the back heel there's a straighter line angle
-toes have a way different shape, it's basically like two horizontal triangles put together.
-neck is less complex, it's just like a tube with furr.
-muscle is much larger, also it takes up a bigger part of the neck (this is why the neck looks like two small tubes instead of one thick one.
-the back is much softer too, it's always like one small line with little curves, the change of angles and height on the back is always eventual
-hair is not horizontal, the hair is a little fallent but facing the opposite way from the skin (exept in the back of the back leg)
-on the eye area the furr doesn't appear under the eye as if the eye was carring it.
-the furr inside the ear is different in each breed of dogs, in the wolf the ear furr appears from the sides and sinks to the middle.
-mouth is always cone-shaped
-nose is mostly in the shape of a circle
-cheek hair is round and connects with the bottom of the mouth

I hope this helps

XD, well you could always do the Disney carton caricature style. What it does is it exaggerates parts of a wolf that usually scream wolf in our heads, or simplifies it so it gives the impression of a wolf (without uneeded details that dont make it hard for people to animate it). Doesn't hurt to try different styles.

And it is ok for an anthropomorphic character to give it let's say waists, eyebrows, necks, etc. =O It may sound tiresome, but this is still all about the style that you want.

But you did say more realistic XD, so I am thinking people will give you more realistic. Though for a cartoon or drawn style, I would never try to be hyper-realistic. Then you lose the elements of a cartoon.

Edit: For the part of the wolf's neck, XP, I may be just confused but I do believe that the neck is not 2 tubes. But the neck (the first tube)is covered by what we call a *saddle* which is a big sheet of fur from the head to halfway the body. It helps rain to slide off a wolf's back. (it's also probably referred to the mane part of the wolf)
