Yeah... I just think that maybe we should be more merciful... I mean, some people don't even know what they're doing is wrong!

You're right Balto_Sis, it is mroe than likely that they want to be just like their admired artists. I was raised to not want to be like other people, so I can't say that wanting to be someone else has effected me that much, not art-wise anyway.
Artists do learn from each other, which isn't bad, but the only way they're going to learn to develop their own style is on their own. It takes alot of practice and alot of not looking at references for style (its understandable to look at art work to see if anatomy is correct, but original style is something people need to learn by themselves)
Now when I was learning to draw people and I copied from other pictures to get the feel of drawing them, I didn't know about citing references and had to find out the hard way, and nowadays Im thinking the only way we know of for new artists to realize that they must cite their references is to tell them.
They will copy from other artists, but if they're going to be doing artistic things, they can't duplicate. Art is about creating, not cloning. Like I said, they will "imitate" but they need to stop sometime and go on their own. Its the only way.

Actually I never thought it was wrong until just recently when Cat posted her topic...Now I feel guilty. I've been using a Mizzyish style, not completely like hers but...Sorta...That's why I haven't posted up any really personal drawings.(Characters, myself..) Now, I'm not sure what to think any more!

I see what you mean... I just think that we'd like to hear how you came up with such a style!

Okay... I've had trouble finding a style of my own... a style that looks good and is fun to draw, and I'm not ranting on this topic. I'm trying to find a style of my own and trying to help others who have the same problem. Besides, I've been slowly weening myself from LLE's style.
One more thing, I never said I had an original style!
