I wrote this for our schools impromptu poetry contest-Which means we had no warning and were given the topic in class- Its something that's been tugging at my heart lately.
If you read this please be aware:
This is my own handiwork-Please don't use without my permission.
It does contain my view of the war in Iraq
It was not created to anger anyone
and If necessary it can be locked-I only ask the Mods to give it a chance.
Different views are welcome-Just be careful about the manner in which you share them please.
O say can you see…
By Sunnybank legend
O say can you see in mornings first light,
My sweet country torn with war and with strife.
Not war far away in dry desert sand,
No, this war is fought inside my own land.
Men call for peace because blood is shed,
“Iraq can never have freedom,” they said
O men of ‘peace’ this never shall be,
If terrorists reign across the Red sea.
What then if we withdraw, Please never let that be,
America proud defender of sweet liberty.
Brave soldiers would cry, “No, let us go back
We know this war can be won in Iraq!”
Would we have the brave brave blood on our hands?
Of those patriots who died on faraway sands?
Those men of courage, proud fiery souls,
Who gave all they had so that others could know.
Liberty, O say can you see, no word more misunderstood than thee.
Freedom, Independence, Unimprisioned free.
Can’t America share its liberty?
When horrors all heard from media and press,
you let your heart go ill with unrest.
You say, “Pull out….There’s nought can be done,
Iraq is a war that can never be won!”
Where has our will gone, our courage to fight?
America! Why do you turn from the light?
The light of your shining legacy of old,
A young country, beautiful and bold.
Where Americas is will to fight?
The noble brave strength that defended the right?
Do we when brave soldiers pay the cost,
Whimper and cry and say, “All is lost!”
Those soldiers who neither whimpered nor cried,
but nobly and bravely went down fighting and died.
Our soldiers aren’t cowards in defending the right,
Countrymen Please!! Don’t pull from the fight!
Americans, O say can you see
The heroes of war call from heaven to thee.
Commanders, soldiers, warriors all,
who answered dieing peoples call.
Bold heroes whose hearts would be shamed
to hear that they fought and died in vain.
Please, people of freedom don’t turn from the war,
America must settle the score.
O say can you see in mornings first light,
A proud nation stepping forward to finish the fight.
Dedicated to the Heroes of the war in Iraq- Never let them be forgotten.
In Prayers or in Memory..
~Sunny
