Chocolate is poison for dogs, they do have a special kind that dogs can eat, though. Candy is not poison, but it's also not good because of all the sugar. If you give your dog one smartie, or a sucker, nothing is likely to happen.

My dogs love sugar cookies, but only get them on special occasions. It doesn't hurt them, but it doesn't help either.

I beg to differ, my dog has gotten into chocolate but it was about 1/4 of a bar. Nothing happened but a whole bar may kill them.

Chocolate being a dog's death is garbage from past expiriences with my dog. A few years ago, when my dog was younger, he got into a bowl that contained over a pound of M&Ms, he ate almost half of it. Other then bouncing off the walls, nothing happened.
Carib is the treat you're looking for.

Chocolate is very poisonous to dogs. A small bite of chocolate cake, or a cookie would probably not bother a big dog, but even a small amount of pure chocolate can kill a small dog. To play it safe, you should avoid giving dogs chocolate in general.
