Almost everywhere I go, people seem to absolutely hate bands and songs that have vocals in which there are screaming, death vocals, or whatever you want to call it. I happen to like this music, and it I can't find anyone else who actually likes this genre of rock. I'm talking about bands like Trivium, Underoath, As I Lay Dying, Norma Jean, Lamb of God, etc.
I want to know if anyone here other than me actually listens to this kind of music.
And, if you don't like it, feel free to say why. I never really understood why people just don't like this music.

I enjoy Fields Of The Nephilim and Astral Doors but I don't think Ronnie James Dio-esq vocals count as screaming, do they?

I guess that kind of depends on your own opinion, but I'm sure that counts.

well.....i don't listen to hard rock as much as u guys, (more of a punk rocker)
but my friend listens to it.
i think people don't like it is because they never acually tryed to listen to it. They probably figured that since it sound like they're screaming like crazy it just doesn't sound interesting to them, then they say its so stupid.
Then maybe some other time they sit and listen to it and they learn to like it.
maybe thats it

I'm glad someone other than me likes it.
And BP, it's totally true. My friends at school always listen to the music for just two seconds and start to laugh and make fun of it. They should think about sitting down and listening to the song for once. They still might not like it, but they should at least have respect for the music someone else listens too.

HYBRID 10 wrote: I prefer bands that scream actually...can you tell XD?But what bugs me is when people say all that the singer can do is scream...and can't sing...which in most cases...is wrong.Just because someone screams don't mean they can't sing. And I happen to love all the bands you mentioned^^
Well, considering you have pictures of Joey Jordinson and the full Slipknot band.....yes, I can tell.
I actually forgot to put them in the list on my first post. I can't believe I forgot about them (stupid me).

I love screaming vocals! =D And singing too obviously lol. I agree with Hybrid on this one though - People DO assume that just because someone screams they can't sing. Now I don't wanna blow my own trumpet, but I sing pretty well, and I can scream. Apparently Dani Filth can sing reasonably, although I've yet to hear his singing lol. Oh yeah, and Trivium are awesome lol. I would say Bullet For My Valentine are a good example of singing and screaming but I don't really think Matt Tuck counts as a screamer lol!

Well, death metal also includes the screams, but it's not the only genre.

I'm not quite sure that Nightwish's lead singer screams at all. She's more like an opera/symphonic singer.

Screamo? Haha they have thought up a name for everything now, how is Screamo so different then any other growls or "low octave singing" that other bands do? It used to be even called Screamcore for awhile, maybe thats gone out of fashon then :/
