Stan padded beside his ‘father’ towards his den for the night. It has been a long day for Stan.
“So, Stan. What would you like to do tomorrow?” The alpha questioned as he knelt down to sleep.
“I don’t know… I was thinking of….uhh… chasing some deer and playing with the other pups of the pack.” Stan replied as he too lay down near the entrance of the den. The alpha sighed and laid his head on his forepaws.
“Oh.. okay son. You’ve had a long day. Get some sleep.” The alpha answered under his breath. His eyes began to droopily close. Stan on the other hand, watched the night sky as the stars twinkled like little lightning bugs on the grass. ‘I hope Storm will remember me…’ Stan whimpered n his mind, his eyelids growing heavy. He was sound asleep in a mater of minutes.
2 Years Later
A female white wolf hid behind a rock in a snowy wasteland. She was hunting not food, but another predator. She kept up behind another white wolf, but this one was a male. She leaned back and forced her body over the lumps of snow and collided with the other wolf.
“Hah! Who’s got who now?” She exclaimed as her tail wagged playfully. Her ear tip flopped down as the rips grew larger.
“Storm, why do you still play around like that? We’re three years old, we’re not pups anymore.” The male wolf replied.
“So? That doesn’t mean that we can’t roughhouse. C’mon, Steve! Have some fun.” Storm yipped back and stood in a playful posture. Steve knelt down and pounced at Storm, nipping at her legs. Storm jumped around, making it harder for Steve to nip her paws. Storm has grown stronger, and faster than what she once was. Her ear was still scarred, and her pelt was still as white as snow.
In the morning sunlight, a black and white wolf crawled out of a den that was about three four years old. The wolf stretched his legs and neck out until a small snap stopped him. He shook his fur until the dust floated around his body.
“Stan.” Mumbled an old alpha male. “Where are you going?”
“I’m going out.” He replied, making sure that he was sturdy and ready for a long run. Stan had also grown a lot since Storm had left. His chest was stable and his body grew larger. Storm’s father grew old and somewhat weak, but was still the alpha.
“Stan, don’t go hurt yourself.” The alpha replied, raising his huge head off of the ground. The alpha’s fur changed from a coal black, to an off black coloration. His white socks were stained with dirt and old blood.
“Don’t worry dad, and stop treating me like I’m still a pup. Sheesh.” Before he could leave, the alpha padded out of the den and sat beside Stan.
“Son, do you remember Storm and her sisters?” The old wolf asked under his breath.
“Yes?” Stan replied, raising an eyebrow at that novice question.
“Do you know why they all had to leave?”
“Well…no.”
“They had to go because they didn’t belong. Unlike you.”
“What? Just because they had white pelts? That’s not right!” Stan shot up and pinned his ears against his skull. His blue eyes staring at the old wolf’s scruffy face.
“Stan, they just didn’t belong.”
“You just hated them because they had different colored pelts that you? I’m going to get her back.”
“No. you stay right here.” The old alpha lowered his ears and bared his teeth at the teenaged wolf.
“I’m going, and there’s nothing you can do to stop me!” Stan growled as he darted off towards the broken trail that Storm once walked. The alpha dazed as the black wolf ran off, disappearing over the icy tundra.
“That stupid kid. He doesn’t know who he’s dealing with. When he gets back, he’s going to regret about disagreeing with me!” The old wolf snarled as he slowly walked into the dense forest.
Stan ran passed the wilderness of the wasteland. He kept his head forward, looking to his unknown destination. Stan ran a few hundred miles in a matter of hours. His legs began to sting from the cold ice and the long run. He spotted a dent in the snow, and hurled himself in it.
“What’s this?” He asked himself. He saw a faint red tint in the snow in the small hole in the ground. He sniffed it, and the best results he received was that is was a wolf’s scent. “Hmm… female… Storm?” Stan whispered in the hole. He rose his head and looked beyond the mountains. He attempted to get out of the ditch, but his legs tingled. “Looks like I’m going to have to wait a while before I’m off again.” He spat as he curled up to warm himself up.
Storm and Steve have had a nice walk around the snowy land. They both have had their bellies full of moose, and are wondering around.
“Steve, do you think I can ever seen Stan again?” Storm asked, looking at the land that seemed to go out forever.
“I..I don’t know, Storm. That depends on what happens in the future.” Steve replied, looking at Storm’s hurt face.
“I would love to see his sensitive face again, just one more time.” Storm didn’t know it, but she and Steve were heading in the direction Storm had once come from.
Stan was still in the hole, recovering. His legs seemed to have seized burning and was able to stand. He rose from his spot and hopped out. He sat down and thought for a moment. “Why would Storm be bleeding way out here? Surely her ear would’ve healed from this far away from the pack.” Stan spoke to himself. He shook his head and rose to all fours. His shadow stretched about fifteen feet to his left, the sun ever rising into the blue sky. “I best be off.” Stan whispered before he bolted in the same direction he destined to follow.
