wolves through out history have been misunderstood as a blood thirsty killer while native americans saw them as their brothers and a powerful spirit what should be the nature of the relationships between wolves and humans in this more modern age?

Personally, I think that wolves are getting a better name now. They'll always be the myths and folk stories that strike fear into people but I don't think wolves are as hated as they once were.

Many people are growing to respect the wolf again, which is good.

To me, i think that Wolves should have more respect than they are given today... i find them as native americans do... except not as strongly. But i do find them as guides and mystierious ones that wont hurt us unless threataned to.

Wolves have always had a terrible reputation, all thanks to those d*** children's stories 'Little Red Riding Hood' and 'The Three Little Pigs'. Most little children I know are terrified of wolves, thanks to those stories
I think people should stop reading these stories to their children!!! Wolves are already endangered as it is; we don't need more of their haters in this world!!!

Thank you!
These books have had terrible influences on our childhoods! When I was younger, I was afraid of them!
I'm with Starsky. When I have children, I will never read them these stories!

I read those stories to kids, and I am stop stoping. It's a story, for goodness shake. The kids does NOT believe it... o_o
And, where do you get this info? About wolves not getting respect? Everyone I know around here loves wolves! and wears wolf T-shirts, wolf this, wolf that, and stores sell ALOT of wolf stuff. What? Because a few people said that didn't like wolves? The only people I see saying they don't like wolves is the hunters, who really don't know much, and is most likely saying that just so the wolves will be... bye bye. =)
I don't know where your getting this info from, but yeah, I'll write more later. I have to go right now, because I promised a friend I'll do something for her.

Nearly all young children I know are terrified of wolves! I have to explain to them how wonderful they are. My wee cousin up in London is scared of wolves, because of Little Red Riding Hood. He's 5
And 'respect for wolves'??? Here in Scotland, almost all wild wolves have been killed! Now the only wolves living in Scotland are kept in parks ans that

Scared of wolves? The kids here love wolves. My brother's kids LOVE wolves, love Balto, loves dogs, loves sled dogs, you name it. xP
I love The Red Ridin' Hood, and the Three little pigs. Their such cute stories. -huggles them-
And, being hunters, their going to more than likely give little to no respect to wolves. =P

Lucky you! Where I live, no one could care less about wolves. And almost all of them have never heard of Balto.

Hehe, I am not always lucky. But, atleast most people here know about Balto. ^^ I seen Balto 2 and 1 on TV. Yeah, I am lucky. =3
I held out my Balto plush, showing it to some little kids that I have no idea about, and the kids were all like: "Balto!" Or "Wolffie!" xD So funny, but yeah, most people here love wolves. =/
And to be off topic, alot of people here love pit bulls. You don't know how much times I seen pit bulls around here. Their always walking their pit bulls, and they seem like they care for them alot. Not as just fighting dogs.
And, the people didn't mistake that Labrador Retriever who attacked the mail man as a pit bull. =)
And I know of a wolfdog that lives next door to my friend, who only lives around the corner. Ain't I so lucky?

Little kids do believe these stories.. I know quite a few at the local primary school who are scared of bears because they ate Goldilocks in the story they were read and also wolves because of the Three Little Pigs.
But then I've seen a lot more people who seem to like wolves. Yes, more wolf t-shirts and things have appeared. Also, at the Wildlife Park I went to, when I was looking at the wolves, two people were saying how amazing wolves were. But then there was some stupid mum telling her child to come away from them because she apparently 'hates them'. Some people.. gah..
