Believe me, I'm not going to lock this. I will admit that I have locked a topic or two pre-emptively(sp?) because I was sure a flame war would develop. Although after that I heard that doing so gives you a reputation of being hevy-handed. So I stopped doing that.

About mods posting in topics that were locked, well, I agree with that only if they are feueling existing flame wars, as that's not the point of mods being able to post in locked topics (although I don't know what that point is, I know for sure it's not that.)

I agree TikTac, it is pretty niggardly if them to lock topics so soon just because they disagree with it.

Agreed, I've seen some mods taking sides instead of remaining neutral in flame wars, then it really annoys me when they do that to lock a rant topic when there's not a single comment on it.

And I warn you from now: I'll lock the topic as soon as I see a post mentioning those fictions. The rant is about something else.

Well said, Togo. WELL said. We've seen enough of the carrying on about this, AND of the even more subtle attempts to continue the flame (and the double standard evidenced in this topic).

If Mods didn't lock topics, then there would be nothing but non-stop flame wars.

Well, of course they should be. The "war" about those is long over, but there are still buttloads of flamers and strong supporters of both sides of the situation. It makes sense that they all want to speak their mind about the topic, but when a mod locks a topic that is supposedly about that "said" topic, the only thing they can do is make a new topic about it . . . once again starting the never-ending circle of "OMGgayficssuck/rock" topic/rant.

I have an idea: Since this is such a large topic, why not create a sticky topic about it and only have that discussion allowed there (in the rant board of course)? It would (hopefully) reduce the amount of pointless topics on here (the rant board) and allow anyone who has an opinion about that topic to speak their mind without fear of the topic being locked (unless some jerk screws it up, mind you). As long as no one flames another for their opinions (you might want to note this in the beginning of the topic; if anyone breaks this, a mod should be notified ASAP . . . the usual stuff)

It's just a thought. I'm tired of seeing these repetitive "gay-shipping" topics getting locked on this board section as much as you are, but if they are given their own place to speak about it, things might be a bit better than it was.

2) You're saying that mods shouldn't have the ability to post in locked topics? And then maybe they shouldn't be able to lock topics at all?

I don't think that's the problem. I think that the mods need to at least explain why they locked the topic beforehand (I think most of you guys do that anyway, right?), but IMO it shouldn't be locked because of personal reasons. Not everyone is like you.

Also, the members are also to blame as well. Because of their replies, these "fights" occur. *sigh*

Quote:
3) How many times has happened that "mods will come in AFTER the topic is locked to put their two cents in "mods come in AFTER the topic is locked to put their two cents in"? Twice.

Actually, Steet does that too, so it's happened more than twice. Less than ten times at least . . . I don't know the exact number, but I have noticed that he (as well as a couple of other mods . . . again, I don't remember the names at the moment) has done this before. Then again, it's Steet's board . . . . he can do whatever he wants, right?

Someone tell the "gay shippers" that, please. We (as in us major posters in the rant board) know better by now. *again, read my first comment - in case this didn't get through to ya*

Thanks. ^__^

[EDIT] And one last thing:

There's nothing wrong with locking topics. I see nothing wrong with it. It's just the fact that most of the new members are still clueless about posting and making topics that pretty much already exist - that's the main reason why you guys (the mods) have the power to lock topics. You shouldn't abuse this power by tackling other topics that offend you. Maybe if they offend other members, then yes, definitely.

And I hope this isn't locked. People should be allowed to speak their opinion in a rant board! That's the main point of it, right? Maybe the rant board should be allowed to not have locked topics anymore . . . since this is freedom of speech that we are talking about. There's a heck of a lot more topics on the rest of the board that should concern you guys . . . it's not as if the rant board is your main priority all of the time (Heck, I see most of you guys on here whenever I'm here most of the time).

You made a few very good points, Juuchan. Well said. The only thing I disagree with is the creation of a sticky topic to allow people to continue to rant about this. EVERYONE (except the "gay shippers" and the hardcore "anti-gay" crowd) wants this to stop ONCE AND FOR ALL, which I know you do too. Allowing more discussion will only breed more problems.

The funny thing is, this all started up because SOME people TOTALLY misunderstood what I was trying to achieve with my "For What It's Worth" topic. I say again (and for the last time) that I was simply trying to indicate that I did not want to continue in the fan fic mod position because I felt a personal, moral conflict of interest. Since steet HAD ALREADY DECIDED what is and what is not allowed (and since that issue is CLOSED), I was indicating that I did not want to have the kind of power which, at least hypothetically, allowed me to deny ANY fan fiction containing content I didn't like or, conversely, to be forced to use that power to approve those kind of fan fics, which I felt flew in the face of my morals and ethics.

And so, the "gay-shippers" and hardcore "anti-gay" crowd misused my statement as a platform to continue this TIRED OLD BATTLE. And those who've always had a personal problem with my own issues regarding these fictions (most especially the "gay-shippers") have used my statement as giving them some excuse to relentlessly flame me for my statements (and to use a double standard by accusing ME of flaming...when I stated quite clearly in that topic that I didn't intend to hurt anyone, and apologized for it should it happen), and blame me for things like an apparent "departure" from Balto Source or whatever else. It's OVER, people. What's decided has been decided.

Once again, we seem to have people here who LOVE to fan flames, to create, support and encourage conflict, point the finger of blame at others for situations THEY create, and play the wounded martyrs when they're called onto the carpet for it. PFF.

HOW MANY TIMES do we have to go around on the fact that this subject is POINTLESS to discuss?!?!

Hmm, you make a good point. I thought it would help minimize the increasing talk of this subject, that's all. I had a feeling it would probably get shut down, but it was worth a thought. For everyone's sake.

But yeah, this whole situation's been settled (by both Steet and the other members), so it would be nice to have this argument end . . . at last.

Amen.

Why can't everyone else understand that as well as you do, BaltoSeppala?

I had never seen people making such long messages, before there was...the rant section.

Anyway :

Quote:
When a topic is locked,no one is supposed to reply, right?Well,I have seen locked topics where mods will come in AFTER the topic is locked to put their two cents in.I find it irritating that they're using their mod privelages like that.

Well, I've done that a few times, but I would have never thought it could irritate anyone...I suppose I'll try not to do it unless it has something to do with moderation. (which was why I did it for most cases, I believe)

Quote:
ANOTHER thing I noticed is that whenever a rant topic includes someone's view on the whole Kodi/Kirby deal, someone's disagreement on a certain subject, and especially Finnish Fox's excellent example of what a flame is,it's locked by a mod

It's very difficult to know when to stop a topic. We can't forecast when there will be a flame war or not. That's why I've always adviced to let the topic open until there IS a flame war.
But about the "gay" topics, they need to be closed immediately. I added this rule a few days ago, because I think most people here are fed up of these aimless debates. (for both sides) And I think that forums for an animated film are not the place to talk about this kind of things.

17. No debates on sexual matters. They are even worse than political talks, and quickly come into wars.

Hmm, I never noticed that. Maybe you should remind people (mainly every member of course) to look at the "revised" rules of the forum, just so there's no arguments if more of these topics do appear due to lack of obeying the rules.

Uhh, does this mean that "coupling" is out of the question now, or does this only affect the "gay coupling" matters (the main ones)?

Just making sure about this, Steet! Thanks for clearing this whole thing up!

I thought the gay fan-fic discussion ended weeks ago, I guess I was wrong.

Every locked topic I have seen has been locked for a good reason, and yes, sometimes they do lock it before a flame breaks out to save the trouble, would you rather waste all your time writing flames towards eachother & then have it locked, or have it locked before the flames. It's most likely going to be locked either way.

I have only seen that happen, maybe 5[?] times. Maybe even less, and it's not like they post in the topic flaming people, they usually just say why they locked it, or something.

Imagine if nobody had the power to lock or delete topics, we would still have the 'What's your phone number' topic, the 'Are you gay or bi?' topic, the topics with videos about people getting murdered, and so on.

Steet has already made the rules about the gay fanfics, and I doubt he's going to change it, why can't people seem to get over that?

Your lucky he's even allowing them on the site at all.
