Post subject: Many fanartists, no guides....
PostPosted: Tue Nov 21, 2006 6:40 pm

I've noticed there are many Balto or wolf fanartists on the net. But, when looking up "Balto drawing guide" or something similar on Google or Yahoo, nothing comes up that is useful. Hasn't anyone written a tutorial? That would really help people who want to learn to draw (me :P) with at least some help with starting out; learning the basic anotamy, etc...Sorry this is more of a complaint than a forums topic...

P.S. Not to advertise too much but, I have a small website and if anyone would like to submit any art I'd appreciate it!

That's actually a pretty good idea! It would help others with drawing and anatomy.

yes... wonderful Idea. I wouldn't be very good at that because I'm not a very good artist but still a very nice idea!

Thats probably because alot of us learned how to draw Balto and wolves on our own XD And most of us learned just by studying other artists' work. Very few have learned everything (if anything) by tutorials.

You mean?Like a tutorial HOW DOES an artist draw a wolf or just simply Balto?
I've been thinking of that also,But i think that you should find your self a style, using others` style isn't fun at all, sometimes I find pritty annoying seeing people having SIMILAR style like the other, and I don't think cause that'd be so artistic,But it's your choice.

If I will have a mobile phone with digital camera and a data cable, yes I MIGHT do a video how I draw my crap. But I won't make promisses.

Well, actually I did this one tutorial and it really helped me with drawing ears (yes it seems simple but i stink). If you learn by studying other artists work, then how did they learn to draw? :P I don't need an angry reply on that thank you though... I tried to draw something and if you could rate it or give me tips It would help alot:

My art gallery-only 2 so far :(

Not to mention, going after what cat said, if we did that, it would be much easier for jealous artists to steal and copy our work and styles. I've seen about 4 people with a very similar style here. Mine is new, but not everyone has the luxury of them having thier own significant style.

I have seen on Greykitty's site Mithmeoi, there are a couple of tutorials and one is how to draw a wolf  I learned how to draw Balto and wolves by looking at pictures of Balto and drawing them till I could do this in my head, and like Cat said, I looked at other people's work to see their poses (but of course I wouldn't copy them!)

This would be nice! But I haven't drawn a Balto character without reference in such a looooooooooooooooonnnnnnngg time! But I can make a tutorial on how I do my wolves... I've been planning on it... they're really easy, too! Seriously. But yeah... I learned to draw Balto the very very very hard way!!! By using screenshots and drawing them over and over and over and over... and over again! Without circles or anything!  I'll tell you... THAT was torture!!! So a tutorial woudl deffinately be very very very good! Actually... I'll go make one right now!

Expect a tutorial in my gallery sometime soon! :D

I think it is a good idea, but, as cat said, somehow learning from looking a other people's work and learning can be better, because by doing that you find your way to draw good, and they might have their own way, may be very different. By giving tutorials, people try to do exactly the same what is on the tutorial and that way may be more difficult. I don't know, I learned how to draw by myself, no one could help me. First you can try to copy some pictures (and not sent them!!!!) to get some practice, and then try by your own. That is how you find your own style.
And people who have a talent in themselves from the beginning try to draw e.g. real animals. They might not have good drawing at the beginning, but later their hand is rehearsed. They also can look on some cartoons how to draw stuff. However, people who want to draw but they don't have the talent yet, they might have more problems at the beginning, but if they really want to learn how to draw, they should practice alot.
