So, it's been a while I've told you stories about my tiger friend Hairball, so I think it's time to come up with his newest hobby:
Our youngsters are currently in the phase (in the age of 14 months) in which they intend to train their hunting skills. Now, it seems logical that they choose an adequate target to prey on, and the visitor's children perfectly fit their desires, apparently... as visitors get relatively close to the fence of their area, they always stalk and run after the kids currently.
The funny part in it is that the visitors really enjoy that and find it cute when one of the three shows that interest in their children... right until I explain them what the cubs actually train by that behavior. They usually leave us with ahmm - very mixed feelings
BTW - that's an interesting picture I took of Hairball yesterday:
That was exactly the same situation - he saw the children... began to stalk them and did hide behind the grass and the fence. I love that photo because it perfectly shows how excellently tiger camo works. Hairball almost disappears behind the grass and the fence, as his colouration contains most contrast elements of the terrain.
So, how's he? Fine so far. He didn't like the hot summer this year, which is interesting, as I also can't stand the heat - seems like we really have similar personalities, and therefore found together. But now, in the colder days he's really active, always wanting to play and learn something. He got big by now, already measuring more in length than me... which he proves when walking and "dancing" on two legs with me.

Er...where, exactly, are these animals kept?

"Where"?
Answer A: Switzerland
Answer B: a Park that cares for captive pantherines that would have been killed by their original owners, due to lack of space and money.
You didn't ever read any of my older topics here?

Quite frankly, with all that I have to follow on this site, I don't really have the time to refer back to old topics unless I'm doing a specific job I'm doing for Steet or the site overall. You could have mentioned it so as to avoid confusion. Not everyone knows you terribly well. There are so many people all over the world, as private citizens, who keep large predators as "pets" because they believe they have the RIGHT to. And those people are a real irritation. And when they tire of them, they either "off" them, or sell them to "canned hunt" companies (either of which is a SICK thing to do).

Dude, if I'd seriously do that each time I post something about these cats, people would stamp me as an annoying, arrogant, for admiration carving idiot from the mountains. So - definately - no. I don't mention that each time I do such a post or topic. But it's you who has to act a bit less by prejudice. Well, IF someone has the time, money and place to offer such an animal an adequate home, there's no problem with it, in my opinion. Although these "tiger-pet" keepers are primarily known from America and I myself didn't ever get in contact with one of them, I'm pretty sure that there aren't only black sheep among them.
It's true that pantherines shouldn't be kept as "pets", as they're highly sensible and intelligent beings that need a lot of occupation in captivity, but you shouldn't forget that our organization is "private" as well, as are many zoos. If someone seriously takes the time and investments to offer these animals an adequate life, and if someone can assure that the animals never get free (hence, endangering themselves and humans), it's alright if he cares for them.
It's a sad but true fact that there exist too many captive pantherines, cats that can't be reintroduced to natural environments without enormous efforts and trainings... and we've to be happy that there are people who care for these animals.

That would be an accurate statement, if I were actually acting "prejudice". I am not. I am simply stating a fact. If you think putting it in every post (which is an unreasonable overreaction to what I said... I was referring to posts where you talk about this kind of thing...for, surely, you don't always talk about what you do on the forums, even if we're supposed to somehow know that ahead of time) is too much, then put it in your profile. That might help tons.

Read your statement again, and you'll figure out that I can't interpretate it differently than as prejudice: BaltoSeppala wrote: Quite frankly, with all that I have to follow on this site, I don't really have the time to refer back to old topics unless I'm doing a specific job I'm doing for Steet or the site overall. Other than that, I suggest that we return to the topic, as Hairball is the matter of the discussion, and not who did do which mistakes.

Semantics. You read into it whatever you want. It doesn't make your interpretation right. You responded, and so I responded back. NOW we can move on.

...could you put that statement a bit more precisely?
Additionally - I believe that anyone here agrees to the idea that "tigers" aren't "pets".
