Ok I just saw this today and I'm sickened. Dogs in China now are being
beaten on sight because of the increase in rabies. And when I say 'beaten' I mean police and others are going around with clubs, sticks, you name it, and beating dogs
to death.
China is now only allowing one dog per household. One woman that owned a boutique is shutting down her shop and leaving to protect her dogs. Others are hiding their pets to keep them from being taken away by the police.
Now, I can understand why China is doing this; to protect it's people from being injured by rabid dogs in the streets etc. But beating them? What if those dogs
DON'T even
HAVE the disease? Plus, there are other,
humane, ways of doing things like this. PLUS rabies is pretty easy to spot if it's in the right stage. If they find a dog that has rabies, with actual
proof either shoot it in the head, or traquilize it and put it out of it's misery. I'd prefer the tranq, but one well-aimed shot can kill quickly as well.
Now everyone, don't go off and start blaming the chinese or it's government. Understand they are doing this for it's people. And while it's discusting, there is little anyone can do about it. Some chinese citizens
are infact fighting back against this, protesting the cruelty and unfairness in limiting the dog per household.
I just pray for these dogs and their families, that those poor animals that are getting beaten, slowly, to death, aren't being killed for nothing. I hope you guys do too. I know I'd be devestated if my dogs were taken away.
