Maybe we should take the word "animal" out of our vocabulary entirely. That seems like a good idea to me.
Well, I have a personal grudge against the word.
At school, I'm very often called an animal because of all my wolf drawing and stories, or "music freak" because there's always sheet music around. But the whole "aniaml" thing started when someone founf my story and started it, then other people joined on. Now, I can't walk to my next class w/o being called an animal. Ahh, don't you just love high school?

I don't think we should call animals people. People is a term reserved for Homo Sapiens in the same way dog is for canids. We do not call monkeys cats, nor do we call elephants tigers, or horses lions. No, its best not to mix up species by giving them interchangeable names, or we would loose track of things. However, keep in mind that humans are a type of animal.

Honestly - NO. I love animals exactly for the reason that they aren't "people"... an animal never lies, gives a lot on loyality and usually stays rational for the matter of its life - all points in which humans fail.
Now, if someone comes up with the argument "humans" are "animals", then I have to say that it's a pretty wrong interpretation. Because the term "animals" stands for a value any representant of animalia sets somewhere: "animals" means as much to us as "not my kind", hence "the others", and therefore perfectly fits the beasts when humans talk about them.
That's why I stick to the scientific term "animalia" (which is a clade for "moving" and "controlled" organisms) when I want to include humans to the pool... as it doesn't contradict with the popular meaning of "animal".
So, if we call an animal "animal", does that mean that this "animal" has no "personality"? I don't think so. It's just that only those who are in close contact with an animal, who understand its desires, will and language, will figure out what personality it actually has. It's natural that people who aren't interested in any sort of communication with animals will see them as a "thing", whereas animal-friends will make more out of them.

No, animals are completely different to people. Animals do not judge eachother.. animals do not mock eachother.. animals do not want to be better than eachother. All animals and though they may not seem it, are good and loyal. We humans are not like animals.

Actually, folks, people ARE animals. Just a different class of animal. Sentient, and generally far more intelligent (inasmuch as we can measure intelligence in other species). But homo sapiens is simply an evolved member of the family of great apes. Thus, an ANIMAL.

Again - as I've posted above: it's wrong to call "humans" "animals". We indeed are a member of "animalia", but define "animal" as something different.

I disagree. But it's a matter of perspective. No matter what WE call ourselves, the facts don't change. We are of an order of animalia. We belong TO that order. The fact that we don't (or don't like to) call ourselves "animals" doesn't change the fact that we really are. We evolved from simpler and lower forms. We are indirectly related to them, and there are certain dormant genetic traits still present in our DNA which are associated with the lower and simpler forms.
Besides, I tend to think that the reason humans don't like to be referred to as "animals" is because, in a certain context, it has a negative connotation.
