Welcome to the page for the Balto Special Features Project: The True Story SectionHere is what will be included in the short clip/trailer. Hopefully we will get all of this in the clip, but some things may not make the cut. These are things that will be mentioned and searched into, some will have more time than others. But here is it so if you are interested, stay tuned! - Balto and his life before the Serum Run - Nome (brief facts) - Togo, the forgotten hero - How the Serum Run worked - The actual calling to Anchorage from Nome for the Serum - Footage of Balto including photos - What happened to Balto and his team F.A.QWhat is this project about? It is a small project about making a short clip for the production of Balto and its true story. The point of it is really enjoyment of Balto fans and hopefully to make people unknown to Balto be encouraged to see the movie. If you have any more questions, don't fret to ask me.
What are you planning? I am planning to make a short clip/movie to act as Special Features and also a kind-of trailer for Balto. It will be posted up here on Balto Source hopefully for all Balto fans to watch and enjoy!
What will be included? As this isn't official, there will not be 'behind the scenes' footage or anything like that, all included will be production info (for more of an idea, check the link at the bottom to Balto's Animation Gallery who are kindly letting us use their materiel) and hopefully a fair amount about the True Story to form a short trailer/film for Balto.
Will you be making any animation for this project? No, this is about the Balto 1 movie and it's history. Clips from Balto 1 will be used as well as clips of the real Balto. But no new animation is needed for this project. This is to act as simple "Special Features" for Balto fans but in a 'trailer' form.
Can I help with the project? At the moment, we don't really need much help as this is only a small project, but any links you can provide on the true story or production of Balto 1 would be great, and I will try to look into it ASAP.Feel free to ask any questions about the project! Updates18th May - The project is coming together now and I am hoping to begin. I would like to remind people that the Balto trailer compition deadline is now the end of this month, if you wish to know any more, check the project page on BaltoSource (link below) for more info, or PM me. Thanks! Once started on the trailer more updates will come!
The trailer compition is coming together and I am glad to see we already have quite a few entrys! Here are the ones I have got track off so far who have sent me their entries.
DrewTheWolf MayaHuskee FAB CarribbeanLady Martinthewarrior
Please, please, please tell me if you have sent one and are NOT on this list! I am really worried about anyone who I have forgotten about, so please let me know if you are not here and have sent me a trailer!13th September - The project is now back from the summer! A couple quick notes: > The Trailer compition is over, a winner is choosen. Thank you so much for all your wonderful entries! > You can now send me your Balto 1 cover designs and I can feture them in the trailer! (check main page on site for more info) Get in contact soon!!
No main true story based updates, but more are coming soon, so keep in tune!Check out the full project page on BS for anymore information! http://baltosource.timduru.org/balto-act-fan-ong-6-numg-4.htmlNOTE: this project is a fan project! This has nothing to do with Universal or Amblimation, ok? Please do not start any flame wars or nasty comments or else they will just be deleted. If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all! So take note of that!

Highland Wolf wrote: *Sorry about the double post here everyone* So, I actully realised that I didn't talk about the project! So this is what the porject is about if you haven't checked it on BS Projects page: Well, Balto never had any real special features and I thought it would be good to make our own, to show how much the fans actually know, lol. So, we will make a series of mini-movies (or Feturettes I think they are called) on several of the production sections in Balto, one of which will be the true story. From the start I wanted the true story part of this project to be large and one of the main parts. So I have asked BaltoSeppala for some help, and now we will start on the actual 'mini movie' on The True Story' of Balto. Here are some of the main points we want to base this project on: - Balto and his life before the Serum Run - Nome before the Serum Run and the history of it (but not too much) - Togo, the forgotten hero - How the Serum Run worked (relays) - The main story by facts - The actual calling to Anchorage from Nome for the Serum - Footage of Balto including photos - What happened to Balto and his team There will of course be more, but I don't want to go into that until later on For now, stay tuned for updates on the project!
Good work, Highland! But you might want to link the page here so people can access it quick and easy. Thanks!

I found this webbie that has the callings of Nome and Anchorage and Seattle. Its only what they said though not sound clips:
http://www.fortunecity.com/boozers/elephant/114/realbal.htm
Quote: On January 20, 1925, a radio signal went out, flashing for miles across the frozen tundra:
Nome calling... Nome calling... We have an outbreak of diphtheria... No Serum... Urgently need help... Nome calling... Nome calling... Nome's only doctor had diagnosed cases of diphtheria, an extremely contageous disease affecting the throat and lungs, which can easily reach epidemic proportions. The Inuit Indians were particularly vulnerable. Whole villiages had been wiped out by earlier epidemics of measles and flu. The frantic search for antitoxin began:
Seattle calling... Seattle calling... Fresh serum available here... Airplanes standing by to fly to Nome... January 25 The long twilight of the arctic winter had settled over Nome. Heavy snow had fallen and temperatures dropped far below zero. These weather conditions were beyond the technical capabilities of early airplanes with open cockpits.
Anchorage calling... Anchorage calling... 300,000 units of serum located in railway hospital here... Package can be shipped by train to Nenana... Package weighs 20 pounds... Could serum be carried to Nome on Iditerod Trail by mail drivers and dog teams?
I'll keep reasearching because I am very much interested in this fan project.

I had not noticed that! Thanks I had already asked Anacis for permission to use his production material for the rest of this project, but I didn't know he had those clips. I will have to ask him. Fingers crossed he will be even more genorous! Anacis already told me that there is actually a small movie being made by a member of the Balto League and used to work on the movie, and he too is going to do a lot on the true story. I had no idea of this until Anacis mentioned it. Thats why I want people to know that this is a fan project! It has nothing to do with Universal, just made by big fans of the movie.

Those clips on Ac's (Fluke's) site are simply rips from the Balto documentary (which is mentioned on the "True Story" section of the main site, Balto 1 section. I once asked Ac if I could use these, and she gave me a resounding "NO". So I doubt she will think differently now.
All you'd have to do is get a hold of the video documentary, and then you can rip segments of it.

Oh right, well I already have the documentary on my computer and that is the footage I will use. I don't think there is any more footage anyway, I was surprised to hear their was more, but didn't not believe it. It is also surprising that he said NO to you, because he simmed quite alright when I emailed him BaltoSeppala, if you still would like to use some footage, I am sure I could send it to you.
Well anyway, thanks for tying to help CarribbeanLady, its the thought that counts

Togo wrote: I think it's a good project Highland, would you like to use real clips or animated short-movies? Two years ago I saw a very well done documentary about the serum run (including Togo), it was an hour long and it explained everything. I managed to recort the second half of the documentary, if I find the title I will look for it on the internet. BaltoSeppala wrote: I once asked Ac if I could use these, and she gave me a resounding "NO". Ac is a man.
Oh yes that would be great Togo! It would be a huge help We don't have much footage on the true story, and none of the real Togo. Thanks

WOW, nice find!!! This is really neat...
and HW, I do have a few places I can go to get more information, but unfortunately, I don't have it in my favorites... so I'll try looking again, and see if I can find it... there was a page with some realy good photos and a whole page on Togo. I also have a list of the stops made between Anchorage and Nome... if you'd like them

All you'd have to do is get a hold of the video documentary, and then you can rip segments of it. *coughs* I am not a she. Togo wrote: Ac is a man. LOL - that's what I once thought. However, she and I had a brief chat where she indicated, very pointedly, that many people think she's a guy...that it's a common mistake. And that they believe her to be older than she really is.
Ac, according to what she told me, is most definitely a girl.
Look I know I have long hair but that is because I am a ROCK GOD! I have the right equipment and I am definately a guy! When did we have that conversation Togo???
