Everyone has an animal shelter not too far from there home but, do you think about them? Maybe you should. I know I am, I'm raising funds for the SPCA(animal shelter) that's an hour away from my house. I really want to help them because the more I help the more comfortable the animals will be. That's not the only way I help out though, I also volunteer to walk dogs, clean cages, feed animals play with them and much more. I not only help the animals but, I have alot of fun doing it too! And still there are more ways to help! You can donate old blankets, tenis balls, cages, dog food, cat food, old stainless steele bols, amounts of money and more but, I can't post them because I'd go on forever!
The main thing I want to point out is that animal shelter can help animals but, they need our support. So, help out if you can because if you help you'll be helping out an animal.
Here is the SPCA I'm helping: http://www.spcamonteregie.com/Frames/English.html

That's really cool. I have an animal shelter about 20 mins. from my home, ours is a no kill. I think that's really great.

There's one just across the street, but they only have hamsters, fish and about 2 cats. The other one 'closest' would be Petland or the Humane Society, but I still have to take 2 busses to get there.

Well, the closest official rescue shelter we have is the Dogs Trust in Kenilworth;
http://www.dogstrust.org.uk
But there are a couple of little shelters. The good thing about Dogs Trust is that they don't destroy dogs if they don't find homes. I could sponsor a dog but since we adopted one (Archie!) I don't.

Really?
Aw, I wish they did that here. I wouldn't be able to work in a kennels around here because I'd end up wanting to adopt all of the dogs that had been there for a long time.

Yeah, I did want to go to Dogs Trust for my work experience but it takes about an hour to get there. Also, they're very serious about their dogs. Both you and the dog have to be assessed before you can adopt. They have to make sure that the dog is right for you.
If you look on the Kenilworth 'Sticky dogs' page, you'll see a dog called Penny. I wanted her sooo much. She was very sweet and very smart. Behind bars. Apparently, she'd had four other homes and gets protective over her bed. Since we have a young child (my little sister) in the family, we couldn't have her. Poor Penny. She's still stuck there now.

It is.. but if she wasn't right for us then I suppose its for the best. I believe she's ten years old as well. We were looking for a younger dog..
Aluewolf, quit boasting about being an 'animal expert'. Most of the people on these forums are.

I'm on topic.. sort of..
But people who think they know everything about dogs really tick me off. I've met people like this before. Most don't know much at all. It's usually this kind of person who ends up ditching their dog at a shelter..
