Is it just me, or has the entire forum been reduced to getting into yelling matches just to make a point?

We argue about things, piss of people, and end up yelling back just to secure your opinion's superiority? Even the mods have to shout sometimes to stop a flame war.

I may just be a simple Canadian boy from a suburban town, but I can see when something's up here.

Am I the only one who thinks this, or is there more people?

Nah, I've noticed it too. No one can just have a good debate anymore

If you want my 2 sense, I think the reason that we have so many yelling matches is because there is no one topic for debate. It seems that person A starts a topic about something, then over a few days it degrades into a debate and very soon after it is locked. many people may have wanted to say things, but had their 1st amendment rights crushed by a mod. sooner or later person B starts a topic similar to the topic person A posted. even sooner than the first topic, it degrades into a debate, and who is the first to engage? those who got cut off the first time. and so the cycle repeats its self.
I think that if only a few topics were dedicated to hotbutton debates, when someone brought it up in another topic they could be redirected there. it might not stop the shouting thats going on, but it will most likely keep them more contained.

I agree.

It seems that the n00bs and the "I'm-better-than-you" type of people (and probably a lot of others, but yeah.) really don't know how to have a good old-fashioned debate anymore! (Really, yelling arguments only lead to locked topics and people being banned - neither one is a good thing, really.)

First of all: If you have a point to state, then state it and back it up with good points, darn it!

Second: If someone else replies back with "LOUD" words and the such, that doesn't mean that you resort back to that way either! You must understand that not everyone will like the same things as you do, and that we're all different for a reason. Settle them down calmly or else, you'll have no other choice . . . .

Have a Mod to bring them down. (HAHAHAHA, not really. That's too much.)

*clears throat* Just try to move that argument to a more appropriate place (like the PMs or on an IM service or something, but not on a topic or the shoutbox - the Mods will probably not tolerate that sort of stupidity very much) where tha two of you have some privacy - no one deserves to read your arguments, especially when they may start to get offensive and personal.

So yeah. I think I've mentioned all of the basics.

Yes, I do love a debate, but when it's something that you know will get your topic locked, take my advice and don't bother to take it into your own hands - tell them not to reply so "LOUDLY" and don't be afraid to get a mod on your side (if you can - it depends on their own viewpoints as well). Be sure to state your points clearly so that your topic doesn't stray away to becoming a flamer's paradise (like in one of Cat's ranting topics). We are members too, and our opinions do deserve to be heard, even if some others may not like them.

Well, yes it's true. I think it's fine to argue but, in a civilazed manner. No pointless commnets, comments that make sense and that are arguemental but, polite.

exactly my point.

This is supposed to be a debating/ranting forum; which is only for intellectual and meaningful debates, not pointless bantering.

if you have something to say, then post. If not, get lost.
