Just before I start, you should spell it like this: Inspiration.
(Sorry, just had to check.)
Well, I personally look to my music for inspiration, because I never fail to find it. (I listen almost exclusively to country music, and they're not all sad and whatnot. Some songs are very uplifting.)
To list a few other places to look:
-Other Writers: Their works can inspire you easily, just don't copy them. (Sometimes they might even ask for a story.)
-Pictures: (This includes movies.) Anything visually represented can stire emotions in you, and emotion is the center of many stories.
-Your Own Life: Heck, sometimes something that happens to you or to someone you know can inspire you. It's happened to me.
To me, inspiration is essential. Someone can tell you to write something, or ask you to write something, but if you don't want to do it you will likely write very slow or even not at all.
Well, if you were to look, at least three of my stories have been inspired by specific songs:
When You Come Back to Me Again
Seven Spanish Angels: The Ballad of Innocent Blood
Balto- Independence Day
Music had a hand in most of the other stories as well, but I didn't attribute my stories to it because no song really stuck out.
Yes, I believe you can be inspired in a 'bad' way.
It doesn't matter what it is, a song, a story, a picture, a movie... If it makes you want to write about something you wouldn't normally, likely because you find it disagreeable in some way, I believe it has inspired you in a 'bad' way. Again, it's happend to me.
Inspiration, in my mind, is anything and everything that causes the creation of an idea in one's mind. This can be a song, a movie, a picture, a personal experience, or many other things.
Hope that helped.
Write on.
