I just finished reading a novel (I won't say the title name so I won't give away the ending to anyone who might still be reading it) in which in the end, the hero of the story was tragically killed in an epic battle with the antagonist. Personally, I get attatched to main characters in novels easily, and in such cases, it's sad to see the main character of the whole story to be killed. I hate how great novels end this way, and how one cannot see any further character developement, but I also love these endings because of it's sheer ability to grasp my heart and touch my emotions. I want to know if anyone else feels like I do; to love and hate main character death at the same time.

I somewhat agree on that, but I only like to see the main character die when I hate him/her.
In the case of the novel I just read, I liked the main character, so I didn't want to see her die.

For some reason, in a lot of series, it feels weird to read the sequel. (There are exceptions!) And if the main character dies, no sequel!
But on occasion, I REALLY don't want to see the main character die. Take, for example, the most awesome book on the planet. Yes, I cried at the end. But it wouldn't be as good without the dying.
But I do love sad endings.

I hate the deaths of the main characters like Larka in The Sight

Somtimes. Depends on if like the character or not. There is a lot of main character death in the LEft Behind series, but its needed to make the books so good and realistic.

I absoluely HATE IT when someone dies, and then they break some magical curse or something of that jibberish, and they miraculously come back to life. I can't stress enough how frustraing and how totally unrealistic it is. IMHO, if an author is gonna make the critical decision to make a character die, they should come through with it fully.
That's so true. When I read books like that and they have the nerve to make a sequel, I laugh. Who are they going to not kill next?

Yeah I kinda like that too. xD Like In Christine, Arnie Cuningham dies and I was all: YES! WOO! xD He wasn't my favorite character anyway. xD
