Been rejected for something you really wanted to be in. Our high school is doing Bye Bye Birdie as the musical, and being the person I am, I badly wanted to be in it. I prepared ym audition 3 weeks ahead of time and went 42 hours w/o sleep to practice it the day(s) before. I never even got called back.
Doesn't physically stressing yourself out count as trying your hardest?

Well, unfortunatly life happens. I'm sorry to hear you didn't get in. One thing I can say, going 42 hours without sleep was a really bad call. I've gone that long without sleep, and you just don't function as well. I play trumpet, and I've seen how much worse I play without good sleep. I have a feeling that going that long without sleep played negative role on your audition.
As far as trying your hardest, that isn't physicaly stressing yourself. Physicaly stressing yourself over an audition is a bad idea. You don't preform nearly as well at auditions, and you just break down. You have to know when to take a break, and know your limits, so you won't break down. When I prepare for a audition, I work very hard at it, but I never try to overly physicaly exert myself. I've done that before, and it never goes well. When ever you pratice for an audition, you should be comfortable, even if you aren't getting it exactly. You can push yourself, but you shouldn't push yourself too hard, or you might do more harm than good.
As far as getting in, tough break. It sucks, yeah, but it happens. It really doesn't matter how hard you try, if you aren't good enough, then you don't get in. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you shouldn't try hard, in fact, if you ever want to get into something like this, you have to really have to work hard and put forth effort, I'm just saying that trying hard alone doesn't mean that you'll get into what ever your auditioning for. For example, I'm trying out for All-State band, and I might not get in. I've been working on the audition matterial since summer, and auditions are in December, but if I'm not as good as the other trumpet players, then I'm not gonna get in. That's just how it works. The best player who is there at the audition get's the gig.

Alright. Thanks guys. And JazzyWolf, if that wasn't so long I'd have stitched it on a sampler.
But I'll try out for pit band on any of the seven instruments (though I doubt we need a banjo )

Rule one, acting is extreamly hard. NEVER stress about not getting a role, your never going to get them all. Simply move on to the next, relax the more you relax the more you'll respond to the stimuli of the lines. Sleep is an important part of doing your best in acting. See your body is the only tool you have when it comes to this and if it is tired or sick your preformance is also going to be the same.
I suggest taking a deep breath and moving on to the next role nad relax a little, acting is suppose to be fun not stressful.
Why not be on stage crew? To show how much you really wanted to be in it, then next year they will probably remember how dedicated you were and you'll probably have a better chance at getting a part.

Yeah, but I just wanted to be in the Chorus role. Trust me, I've been turned down for many many roles. But my school puts on the best musicals in the county! I just wanted to be a part of that success...
Well, can't expect much from a freshamn, eh?

Your a freshman, you have quite a while to be in the 'Country's best plays'. Practice, read some acting books, take a few singing lessons, don't ever get cocky. Cockiness is an actors down fall.

Ok well Drew must be an actress because she has it all right^^ and yes it's extreamly hard, and there will be downfalls, but thats when you get back up agian and try harder for next time, yeah it may take manytimes but, if you want something so badly, then trying more then once is the onlyway^^
Trust me I know from experiance, for I am an actor like drew so we know what we are talking about^^ so do your best and don't give up^^

I used to act a lot. But now I think I'll audition for pit. They might need some guitarists... But if not, saxophone will do just nicely....

You might want to ask about the saxophone thing, cause not a lot of musicals use saxophones. It does depend on the musical, but a lot don't use saxophones, but hey, for all I know, whatever musical your doing does have a sax part to it.

We're doing Bye Bye Birdie, so I thought it called for a more jazz-like sound. But if not, we can always get a Dixieland sound from a clarinet or a rock sound, guitar. I doubt they'll need a banjo though...

All my sports are in the spring... I play softball, soccer, and water polo.
But all year round I'm an equestrian!
