Hmm, you do have a point: Mostly all 3-D animated films are nothing more than comedic animal movies.
And actually Shrek didn't start it - Toy Story (the movie that was released in theaters at the same time as our beloved "Balto") started it. But note this: it wasn't all comedy - the geniuses at Pixar not only made it funny, but also added that sense of childhood whimsy and serious issues (friendship, jealousy, moving away from home, and other stuff) to make it enjoyable for everyone. Shrek succeeded in doing the same thing with both of its films, by mixing that enchanted fairy tale land with some interesting personalities and issues (love, acceptance, being beautiful/different, and the biggest thing of all: misjudging people by their looks before getting to know them first) that probably everyone could relate to.
Unfortunately, most of the comedy is all something we've heard before, and it's so slap-stick that they aren't that good anymore . . . but at least we can still trust that Pixar will continue to give us Oscar-quality films that look so realistic, you'd think the characters were real.
Oh, and here's my list of 3-D comedies:
- Toy Story
- Toy Story 2
- A Bug's Life
- The Incredibles
- Shrek
- Shrek 2
- Over the Hedge
- Madagascar
- Cars
- Open Season
- Flushed Away (which opens tomorrow!)
- The Wild
- Chicken Little
- Doogal (terribly redubbed for American audiences . . .)
- Barnyard
- Monster House
(Could we mention future/upcoming releases also? And I know I'm missing some movies in there . . .)

Yes, especially the adult humor in all of those movies you listed XD Suitable for everyone, even grown-ups trying to bond with their kids! w00t! Can't get enough of adult humor in children's movies XD Everyone MUST know that in almost every single old movie (old being movies particularly in the 90's) is not completely for kids in that field. Even Balto isn't innocent, but people fail to realize it because of the craptastic sequels XD But anyway. Yeah, I noticed too that in mostly the 3-D animated films of today can be for everyone, no matter what your age, race, gender, etc. is.

Well stated, Cat!
Also with the amount of 3-D animal movies, there's the obvious jokes - squirrels/chipmunks and their nuts, large characters and farting, and other examples of crude humor (This is considered as humor? Dude . . . times have made comedy go from smart and sassy to stupid and pointless.). And the potty jokes . . . they have to go.
(If anyone makes a Balto "remake" fic with nothing but potty jokes and other forms of crude humor, I'd kill myself. Not literally, of course.)
But I suppose for an animated film nowadays, it has to have some sort of "adult humor" in it in order to make it on the big screen. Like the Shrek films, for example: There are so many crude jokes in those, but the comedy is not just quick and witty and crude (at points), it's funny, no matter how old you are. Plus with the backgrounds causing some of the humor (while trying to distract you from the main situation), the Shrek films are true genius (outside of Pixar's films, of course.).
Lunawings: Gah! I forgot a couple ore films and I remembered them!
- Finding Nemo
- Everyone's Hero

that is a good point, frist because the 3d animation started only with comedies and follow with.... comedies
I think we will never a see a movie such balto or the lion king (a non comedy film) in 3d animation never ever... becxause the people from the studio are making these two styles (comedy and 3d) stick togheter,
I think they should at least try nmake a non comedy movie to see if it wioll convince the people, because i still think filmes such balto will never could be done in 3d animation

I say action by far. I mean, with animation, it makes it all the more possible to put in more fantasy-type action and fighting sequences, doesn't it? I mean, I think they make too many animated movies for families, although I am aware of animated movies that weren't in theatres that weren't family oriented, such as the Animatrix or Final Fantasy, but I think there need to be more of the action animated films, IMO...
