Now that you made me think about it, I guess I didn't notice...until now.

I really don't agree, the wolf in "Hoodwinked" was very good animation. What are you talking about?

Hm, no?

The "bad" wolf in The Chronicles of Narnia look AWESOME, and very real.

The wolf in Hoodwinked was pretty cool.

I don't know of anything else.

Maugrim looked good, but personally, I think that the wolf in Hoodwinked looked like a big schnauzer or however you spell it, what with the "rectangular" face and the mustache.

I've noticed that too, although there are some exceptions:

Chronicles of Narnia (There were real wolves there, and the one that talks was animated realistically to blend in with the real wolves)

Wolf's Rain (Although most of the wolf characters were good anyway)

Balto II had realistic wolves, except for Niju and his followers, that is.

The animated Wargs in Lord of the Rings the Two Towers and Return of the King were realistic. Even though you know they don't actually exist, they look real anyway. (I mention them because they were once reffered to in the movie as the "wolves of Isengard")

You know, I knew that . . . but I thought it was because of the specific story that shapes a wolf a certain way.

For example: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe:

The wolves in that film are not only evil (as in, they serve the White Witch), but also they are very realistically done (mainly because they used real wolves in many shots, but they also animated them when they were talking or doing other things - which is pretty much stated by Swords of the Wolves).

In Disney's The Jungle Book, the wolves looked rather nice (they reminded me of the ones in Balto and Wolf Quest (except not as raggedy as Niju's trio)), probably because they were peacefully living in the jungle with their pack . . . and raising a human among them.

On the other hand, as shown in Disney's earlier cartoon shorts (for example, "The 3 Little Pigs" and "Lambert the Sleepish Lion"), the wolf was shown as a skinny, evil character, meant to bring fear and death to whomever it laid its eyes upon. It was sneaking on the prowl, hunting for its next meal (whether it be pig or sheep). Of course, the evil wolf will never win this battle.

So, I believe that it depends on how the wolf is in the story itself before it is given this look of either evil and skinny, good and realistic, or just a mix of the two. But yeah, you bring up a good point.

And I really have no clue on the wolf in Hoodwinked, really. He looks too "dog-ish" to be a wolf . . . . wait, that makes no sense . . . gaaaah.

The wolves in Wolf's Rain look pretty well drawn.

Yeah I noticed that too. Its like Juuchan said, if the wolf is supposed to be an evil character, it's going to look the part. But I think people usually do that because years ago people were afraid of wolves and considered them as evil (and to people evil = ugly) so it's just kind of a past culture thing people still have going on. It's all psychological matters, pretty much, but yeah, it's mostly because the wolf is supposed to be evil in the movie or whatever. But it's not always like that. If they're good guys, they're "pretty", if they're bad guys, they're "ugly."
