I have this neighbor, and they've had a good number of animals at their place (at least 3 dogs, 1 cat, and a turtle at different times) and I've noticed that all of them seem to have suddenly disappeared within a year or two of them coming to their house. I am at least 80% sure that they mistreated them in some way, as the dogs had a good enough reason to run through the electric fence... I recently noticed that I stopped hearing their most recent dog barking, and it's been less than 5 months since they got the dog... Should I call the Humane Society or something? Because I think that they are either mistreating their animals, or they just don't know how to...

Yes...be sure of what you're doing before you make a report. Pardon the bad pun, but it really can come back and bite you in the, well...nether regions. lol

But your concern is admirable...

OK, thanks everyone. I was thinking if I just called the Humane society and told them to at least keep surveilance on them without making it obvious what they were doing, then it wouldn't be a false alarm or anything... I think... I don't know how I could do any "Investigating" without seeming intrusive...

If they have animal cruelty police, maybe you should try giving them a call, and have them do the investigating.

Try becoming friends with them and ask questions about the dogs, don't make it to obvious like 'So what happened to your dog? did it die? did you kill it?!' but maybe like 'Hey where did that German Shepherd (just an example XD) dog go?! I thought it was so cute and I miss seing it!' or stuff like that..do they seem like mean people? before you call the humane society you should get more proof..they can be a real pain sometimes...

If you filed a report on Animal Mistreatment, and it came to be wrong, your neighbors could file a lawsuit against you, which from then on they will refer to you as "the person who cried wolf." So, by all means, do a little investigating yourself! It could prove to be true in this day in age. Just make sure you have facts and possibly photos of wounded animals before you file anything. Good huntin' Swords!

Well, I doubt I could get photos, but I could also have a bunch of people in my neighborhood serve as eyewittnesses, as I think a good number of those would make up for lack of photographic evidence... my whole family is aware of it, but I'm not sure four eyewittnesses are enough to make up for lack of photos...

Maybe they are just watching the dogs for a close relative? Or maybe they are one of those people who take dogs (from places like the Humane Society) and keep them in their home until they find new owners?

I really don't know, it could be anything I guess.
