!DISCLAIMER!

I don't review movies for a living or anything. The opinions expressed here are my own and do not necessarily reflect the views of the staff and administration of this board. So if you thought it was a great movie, I'm not going to tell you can't like it. Don't get all huffy about it. I hae strange taste in movies anyway. I mean, I go to Rocky Horror every Saturday night.

On to my review:

Yesterday I came home from lunch and turned on the TV hoping the IRL race in Kansas City would be on. But instead I was treated to the last half hour of what seemed like one of the worst movies in recent history. For some reason local TV affiliates have this thing about putting on bad movies and infomercials on during slow sports days (all that was on was Tennis and Golf). This was the bad movie day.

The movie was called Chilly Dogs(the link is to the imdb article for the movie). The entire premise of the movie is in order to claim his inheritence this guy named Kevin had to complete the Iditarod. So he assembles a crack (or cracked, however you interpret it) team of sled dogs, which from what I remember consisted of a german shepard, a poodle, a saint bernard, and I think a golden retreiver was lead dog.

The only part of the movie I saw was the end of the race when he was comming into Nome, which looked more like a movie set plopped down in the middle of a Canadian ski resort (it was filmed in Canada, don't know where). It has a bunch of pine trees that just looked out of place. After getting into a fight with the lead musher (I remember there was biting involved), he passes through the archway (which I swear said "Iditadog" on it, while every banner around says "Iditarod"), and wins the race, but he keeps going. The very next scene is this woman who's being held hostage by a guy driving a bulldozer (played by Leslie Neilsen) and Kevin playes chicken with him. So as their about to collide the woman grabs the controls and puts the dozer into a shed. Then there's a minor gunfight involving gold and the shed blows up with Leslie Neilsen still in it. Kevin gets the girl, gets the inheritence, then falls through an open manhole cover to end the movie.

At the very end there's a plug for the real Iditarod race, right before the credits roll. I know they're probably trying to get all the free publicity they can get but I don't know. *shakes head*

Anyway after discussing it with my friend and movie geek Ron (he worked in a video store). He said the movie when it came out on DVD went almost immediately to the "cheap and we don't care how long you keep it" section at the store.

The movie had a * rating in the TV Guide, but I'm left trying to figiure out what movie they stole the star from. While it's certainly not oscar material, I'd be interested to find out if it won a Razzy award.

Anyway, that's Rob's bad movie review for this week (or whenever I feel like doing another one). Tune in next week for "Why I love comic book adaptations of Movies Part 1 aka I haven't read my Shaun of the Dead comic yet and I'll tell you what I think later."

Until next time!

I saw this movie on HBO awhile back, I think it was like a year ago. well anyways It was a pretty good comedy, and it held my attention enough for me to watch the movie. But the reall reason I watched it was because it was in Alaska, and had to do with the Iditarod dog sled race. also there were alot of pretty huskies in the movie!

I'll give it credit the huskies were awesome. :)

When Ron and I were comming back from War of the Worlds last night we were talking about it and one comment he made was appropriate: "Dude, Leslie Neilson's in it. That should explain everyting."

I picked the title addicted to bad because it's one of those movies that so bad it's funny and you can't help watching it. I have to say I was at least entertained or I would have flipped channels after a few minutes (I watched about the last 30 minutes of it).

And I found out part of the reason they filmed it in Canada is due to the fact the Canadian govenment offers sweet incentives to film there. So you can either go for realism and pay out the nose for it, or make it as cheaply as possible. I know which way I'd go if I were writing the checks.
