Post subject: Useless comments in the question section
PostPosted: Fri Oct 27, 2006 8:06 am

Okay, something that's REALLY starting to annoy the h - e - double toothpicks out of ME is members posting comments in the questions section, of the main site, which are essentially simple reiterations of comments a previous member left. In other words, after a member posts a question, and another answers, then some third member (and so on) comes on and gives the same answer, just in simpler language (and usually badly-spelled and grammatically-poor English...even from native speakers). That's "parrotting". And it's a waste of bandwidth, and a source of incredible irritation!

And if you go to the questions section, and look at any random post, you'll see what I mean. And there are some repeat offenders: chloe, wolf puppy, _Angel_, jenna__wolf/husky, balto_claw, and kodi_fan.

Now, it would be easy (and convenient) to chalk it up to the fact that these are kids (not teens...KIDS). But not all of them are. Indeed, a few are (like 9-12). But some are older teens! And one is in her twenties! (Or so they claim.) THEY should know better!

And you suggest to them that they stop, and they just keeeeeeeeeep right on doing it! What is the POINT of doing that?? Getting one's "two cents" in??

No offense to the questions mods, who do some great work there, but you might want to police this better. Any comments that parrott a previous one should be deleted. And repeat offenders need to be warned and, if they don't get the message, they need to be banned. :x

I agree BS :)

I really oftenly saw some dum stuff sent by these people.Even on Fan Arts, and on Fan Videos also.
They keep sending stupid links,or others videos.

And I see that this is happening on the Questions section too?

I guess that you should PM a Mod or Steet about banning them .....

Yeah No offense..But you guys(Questions Mods) should preview what they post before ALLOWING them on the site?

There is one good thing about all this,at least I'm not a repeat offender of the pointless questions.

Eh, would it work better if the question topic was locked, after the person who asked the question, gets the appropiate answer he/she needs? Or is there no way to lock it on the site?

Not yet. As I said, the more I work on the site, the more you ask for new functions...

Anyway, the problem isn't just the questions section, it's more a problem of "trolls". It's just the way kids act, they don't have anything interesting to add but they want to post messages, so they just imitate and repeat the answers given.
I don't know what the solution would be, probably sending them warnings PMs, which could lead to bans if they don't want to understand.

"Trolls". Heh heh...I like it. It has panache. "Miserable, no good robbing trolls!"

I think warning PMs from the question mods are the way to go. Or mods on other sections where this happens as well...

As of right now, it's not possible for Kari and I to delete messages, just the questions all together. I have sent some PMs to people who have made very usless and downright stupid questions or (as I have encountered recently, a member using a picture of CatWhoHas14Tails's). I will start moderating this section even more closely than before, though! So sorry to have let that get in the 'rut' it is. ><

Here's ANOTHER example of what I mean (THIS person, Balto_claw, may NEVER learn without a reprimand). Look at StoneFox's response, which the question mods posted as the best response, and then scroll down to the bottom. Frickin' PARROTTING!!! GAH! Even after the person who asked the question acknowledged that he/she saw StoneFox's answer!

If I could delete answers like that, I would. But Steet hasn't made that possible, yet.

Great idea Seet. :D Yeah, I seen these dang annoying posts before while browsing around the fourms. I don't know what's up with these people, I won't say their dumb. I'll say that when their brains were being poured in, it was with a tea spoon.

dude, all I can say is that they either a) are trying to annoy us or b) they are just plain stupid.

Little bit of column A and a little of Column B prehaps.

No worries, Tibby. I know you feel the same way about this as I do.

And Silver Balto? I agree man. Very likely more of the "dumb" part...but probably a little to be annoying, maybe. But definitely more the "dumb" thing. And, I still think, because it makes them feel important that they threw their comment in too. If only they realized how stupid it actually makes them look!

Yes, I've seen that.
I haven't actually posted a question yet, but on other people's questions and/or fanfics, I''ve definatly seen that.

My guess is that they think the question and/or fanfic, etc., is good and they feel they should comment, but aren't sure what to write.
They therefore write what someone else has written in simpler phrasing.

I agree, it is very annoying at anytime I catch it.

reminds me off a rival I had in Grade Ten. He points over my shoulder and yelled, ''hey, what's that?''

So I look, and...here's the kicker...he tries to poke me in the eyes.

Now, I'm sure you can tell how well that went. I feel two fingers poke me in the back of the head, so without turnbing I say, ''what are you, a &#*ing idiot?"

see, that's about how dumb these guys are.
