Tara argued, "But we can protect them-"
Ellis pivoted around to meet her gaze and shouted, "Shut up, Tara! You don't know how serious this is! You're seven years old, you don't know anything! So just shut the f**k up!" the steel in his voice was apparent and sharp, and he might as well have been breathing fire.
Tara whimpered when Ellis screamed at her, and she shrunk back and hid behind Chase's leg.

Ellis directed his fire now at Chase. "She doesn't understand the situation! Stop defending her, f****t!"
Tara shrunk into Chase, not liking at all how this was turning out.

"Actually, I do give a s**t about her!" Ellis snapped back furiously, "And you don't even know the kind of-!"
"Hey, f***er!" Carmen interrupted, spinning Ellis around and punching him square in the face, knocking him unconscious. She brushed her hair out of her face and said to Chase, "There, he's out." she stepped closer and said to Tara, "Don't listen to Ellis. He's been really off lately."
Tara nodded shyly, then leaned into Chase again.

Tara didn't answer, instead she buried her face in the crook of Chase's neck.
When Kyler got closer to the gang she spotted Ellis on the ground and gave a confused look. "What did he do this time?"

Carmen looked down at unconscious Ellis and sighed. "S**theads will be s**theads, don't worry about it." she told Kyler and Damien.
"Do we wanna know what happened?" asked Kyler with a smirk.
