Here's my opinion:

Sexual: as long is there aren't any R to X rated love sequences or sexual language, it's fine.

Violence: As long as characters don't suddenly come up with high-caliber weapons that weren't mentioned before, and there isn't too much graphic descriptions of gore, it's fine. (My fanfic had blood in it, but that was all, though I wish I did something different with the ending.)

Gay/incest: They're simply love stories with the gender switched on one of the characters, or the fact that the two lovers just happen to be related to each other. As long as people don't get carried away with it and can only think of those two things, that is.

Who's bashing WHO? WHO'S getting personal? Allow me to remind you of what you accused me of saying:

So you're saying that anyone writing anything controversial AT ALL ia horrible, dirty person with an unclean concscience(sp?)?That's just messed up.

Yep. It sure looks to me like you fired the first shot that led to the current argument. Since I never SAID any of those things (nor did ANYONE), you just stuffed some words into my mouth...and, in the process, achieved another insult.

This is what I was reffering to.You're saying ANYONE who is writing controversial stories is 'violating limits'.I have read several incest stories.None of them seem to be violating anything to me because they're just STORIES.Not real-life sequences,STORIES.That's why it's called fanFICTION.

I said, QUOTE: "it is being VIOLATED here on a daily basis (not by Steet or the mods, or even most of the members. But by ANYONE doing these controversial fan fictions)!" I did NOT say what you earlier accused me of! YOU insinuiated it, and drew your own faulty conclusions. Because you, as usual, jumped to conclusions. And so the argument continues...because YOU are not taking the time to read peoples' posts THROUGH.

"That's why it's called fan fiction". Pff. I'm so sick of hearing that. It's no better than that tired old "If you don't like it, don't read it". A cop out is a cop out. And an excuse is an excuse.

I TOTALLY agree with you. I like the first one better. If not, then people wont be able to express thier ideas. That's horrible.

Okay: I'm a xenophobic nazist and I aim too kill all negros... Or better, I'm a terrorist who wants to destroy USA. Law doesn't allow me to express my ideas... Horrible.
The point is: there's a limit for everything.

And I TOTALLY agree with with you! (I also realize you were being "tongue-in-cheek" about the xenophobic, nazist, racist, terrorist thing. LOL

What??? Are you mocking people? I (we) know that there is a limit....but if you WANT to kill people, then why are you going to write that? Thats crossing the border. poelpe an write whatever they want, but killing? If your sick in the head, then Ill understand, but If your a human being, the why would ANYONE write that they want to kill people? Are you ok???

Oh, for pity's sake, he was trying to make a point! Calm down.
And I agree.
There may not be rules yet, but there are certainly limits governed not by we the moderators, but by common sense and curtousy.
Write to express, not to impress, and you'll succeed.
That being said, mind not what you write, but where you plan to post it, and if it requires a warning and/or higher rating.

On that subject: Use the bloody ratings system, please. Steet put it there for a reason. Too often I see unmarked fics, and as a force of habit, I read them.
Warnings should be used, too, if necessary, but again, I leave that mostly up to you.
However, should I find a fic that is improperly rated (or not rated at all) I will give it an appropriate rating and a warning for the readers if necessary.

Write on, and enjoy your freedoms.

Has anyone even bothered to REALLY mention those writers who write "violent" or "sexual" things, don't go into excruciating detail, but still writes enough for those who KNOW what's going on (older folks) to know what's going on but not enough those who WON'T know what's going on? Know what I mean? (I BELIEVE I mentioned it in my story tutorial [which i might add has over 200 views, so people ARE taking it into consideration, maybe you guys should too]) It's called "THIN DESCRIPTION" Is THAT going to be allowed? Or are people still gonna be pricks about that too? I originally wasn't going to get involved in this conversation because it's pretty much one-sided anyway, but if I have to delete my fics (which i might add has a good amount of violence) because five people think it's "too explicit" I'm gonna fight for what's logical.

Now, say for a moment my fics ARE too "explicit" for more than those five or six or ten people? I have no problem toning them down some. SOME. Meaning, I would not take out the entire scene, considering it's NECESSARY to know what's going on in order to understand the story.

how about this- the fics can remain the way they are- and for R-X rated fics are only available to members whoes age posted is above say 12. and the age should be a mandatory thing to put when becoming a member. and if the person does not have an age posted, they cannot access anything above PG13. how is that steet? is this a good comprimise? it CAN be done.

What ever flows I go. If a Fic has something you don't like DON'T read it. There's a warning, so if they read it and are hurt or disturbed they did it them selves. There's a warning if they ingour it they pay the price. Warnings are on there like for movies I was offended by that R film. Well it was R for a reason. R movies shouldn't be allowed to be made. The heck what's your problem? There's warnings on there if you can read, you know the warning you know the risk and you take it. You can't go yelling at the person who made it. If they read and are offended. It's their fault. There is a summary and a rating. You know what it is about. So if you read anyway that was your choice like going to a movie. If your offeneded well good for you. You knew the risk and took it and regreted it. This is why you think twice. It's basic if on there you don't like something you don't read it. Is that hard to click away to another spot? I don't think so. It's their choice if they ingour the warning their on there own. They went with it. It's their doing, if they like jump a cliff they can't blame the the cliff for jumping off. That's not right. It's there choice a warning and everything and if there wasn't a proper warning then skip a few lines is that hard to move your eyes? Let them write what they want let the readers read what they choice to read with the warnings they have if they ingour it it's their fault for getting hurt.

That's exactly what I was saying on that other topic! They have everyone's age when you register, so if there was like a password or something, that would put a stop to it!

And I have encountered those who simply disregard the warnings because they're "Too long to read" Who's at fault then?
