But a lot of times, bringing up your obsession can either cause the moment to feel even more awkward or end up labeling you as "That guy that likes, whatever" among your friends, which can also lead to annoying teasing. (Believe me, I've experienced this stuff before. LOL!) It really comes down to what your obsession is. If it's something that not a lot of people are into (such as my obsession with trains, lol!) then you may want to keep quiet about it. If it's something that is pretty popular among the general crowd, then it may be better "discussion starter."

It can be sometimes very difficult for me to keep my "obsessions" to myself...

I'll always try to bring up a movie I enjoy and make a conversation out of it Why would it be hard to keep to yourself? Now if a topic comes up that is related in some way to your obsessions then it would be pretty understandable to bring it up, but if you just bring it up out of the blue moon and immediately start asking what others think about it, then I think you're going a little overboard with wanting to share your interests. (I'm not saying you are.) For me, I tend to get overexcited about a certain thing. Once I state my opinion about how horrible something is, I can't seem to stop talking about it.

I apologize before-hand if my response gets a little too personal.
Even though I'm three years older than my brother I really act more like the younger one, as he gets Call of Duty games and I get kid's movies when we go to an electronics store. I'm really into nostalgia, and I tend to think he is too. I'm just far too into it for him, as he just shuns me sometimes because it's too weird for him.
I've been laughed at about it, yes. At an end-of-the-year band banquet, an acquaintance just brought the subject up out of nowhere by pointing at me and saying "he likes Balto!" There were others at the table with us, but I think he was the only one really bothered by that fact.
Yeah, I'm an adult, age 19, that likes kid's movies. It's a fact. It's also a fact that there isn't really a place for my kind in the real world. It's not what we're supposed to like at this age, it's awkward to other people because they just don't understand. Because of this fact I subconsciously bring myself down in a way. I feel like I'm doing something wrong when I'm on a Balto forum and writing fanfics while inside a college dorm, I walk around the campus and make myself feel like it's an obscene thing just to think about Balto in this setting. It's silly I know, but my point is society just sets boundaries and limitations as to what people can and can't like in certain environments.
In a way, isn't that why we're here? To actually make an environment where people like me - like us - are SUPPOSED to like what we like?

Emotionally - never. Nowadays I freely express my love for the Balto trilogy. I used to have a hard time to be blunt about it, embarassed even, because I didnt know what people my age would think. Nowadays I even bring Balto up in conversations.

I've never been given a hard time about it, per se, but I don't say much about it at school or anything--even if I'm working on a fanfic or something and someone asks about it. It wouldn't go down very well if certain people found out about it, so I try to just play on the safe side and keep it quiet.

You truly don't get what he's saying? So, there are some spelling errors. Big deal. I don't think you need to condescend on him about his English Earlier today I actually got joked with for talking about Balto. My first time that's happened to me! Well, I didn't want it to come to this but arguments turned into pushing and then into a bit of Blood-shed. I can't say who won the fight because it was a draw. I'm not proud of how things turned out just because of an animated cartoon but the guy i fought was a jerk anyway! You can consider THAT my first hard time for liking Balto...
