Griffin sighed quietly. He wasn't tired in the least, so of course, he could say the entire story without yawning. However, he knew Rose was beyond sleepy. Still, he was hesitant to continue with a response for a different reason. Would Rose look at him differently if she knew his past? He shook his head. It was about time he told the truth for once. It seemed Rose had rubbed off enough to get him not to lie to her, if no one else.
"Well... it's sorta a long story, but... despite what anyone else would think, I used to be the topic of everyone's conversations. People would crowd around to be near me. I used to be conceited and love no one but myself... and my girlfriend. At first I had only been with her cause she was pretty and it would gain me status. But eventually, I grew to love her a lot. Very much..." Memories began flooding back, making the story as clear as day in his mind.
"Then one day, some guy who had been one of my 'friends'," He used the term friends with sarcasm, "betrayed me at the ultimate price. Somehow, he had become a vampire. I still, to this day, have no idea how, and it drives me crazy." He gritted his teeth ever so slightly. "He had turned my girlfriend into a-" He stopped himself to correct the mistake of 'vampire'. It was too light a word. "Into a monster. A blood sucking leech." His eyes turned to the ground, anger and resentment towards the figures of his past flooding his non-existent soul.
The fact he was calling his own kind such bad names would usually lead one to believe he had been the opposite of how he acted in his past. He was a monster himself. "She turned me in a fit of confusion. She had been turned herself in a state of shock, had no idea what was going on, and I guess you could even say she had a case of amnesia." He gave a chuckle that held no real happiness in it. It was more of a grave fact being tossed out into the open.
"After that a werewolf tore into the place acting like he owned it. He killed my best friend, and just when my girlfriend's memory seemed to be coming back, she was gone too." His eyes held nothing but sadness. "He tried to kill me too. And he would have. He should have. But somehow I got alive. Before now, I wondered why I had let myself live. If I hadn't been caught up in the moment, and had actually thought about it, I would have let myself die. But I didn't. And because I didn't, thousands of people died. I murdered them all." His face was clearly pained, though his memories were starting to go back to the back of his brain as he forced himself back to the present time.
"I should have let myself die..." he repeated, his voice somewhat distant as he tried to gather the strength to return back to Rose. "Until now I wouldn't have cared about a single soul that I forced off the face of the earth. I still don't. But you've been giving me reason lately to feel regret. That's something I haven't even laid a finger on for a long time... I..." He didn't know how to express his current thoughts at the moment. "You've made me feel."

Rose had sat up half-way through Griffin's story, her tired mind buzzing with all this new information about the vampire. As she listened intently, her imagination produced the story in images and movements that flashed across her eyes. She could see the red gleam of the vampire girl's eyes, empty of memories and emotions. A dark shadow of a man stood beside her, no face, just a black figure. A large wolf, much bigger than an actual werewolf turned into, tearing through the room. The black blood of a vampire splatttered on the floor.
And then the scene of Griffin's face haunted by fear and pain and anger and greif, twisted by so many emotions.
Rose rubbed at her eyes to erase this image that seemed so real in that moment. Seeing Griffin standing there in front of her, his head bent slightly as if weigh down by the hurtfilled memories that he was retelling, caused something to tug at Rose's heart. This feeling urged her to go to him, hold him tight against his past.
The moment that he stopped speaking, this urgent feeling quickley pulled Rose off the ground and she ran the few feet to him. Her brain couldn't keep up with her feet, her thoughts and reasons left on the ground where she had just been sitting. She didn't say a word or even look at him as she crashed into his chest and wrapped her arms around his waist.
"I'm glad I could help," she whispered, her voice brimming with much more emotion than that phrase usually required.

Griffin was suddenly met with the body of a girl he suddenly knew he had fallen in love with. Love... an emotion he had long since forgotten. Only Rose could have brought it back to life. And to think, a life or death situation was the thing that brought their paths together. A life or death situation for Griffin mostly, but... it held a sense of danger in retrospect that seemed very much like that of his old memories. That danger... that feeling... the werewolf, the turning.
None of it mattered in the moment, though. Griffin was savoring every bit of her sweet scent, her gentle hug, her embrace moved by unknown forces. He wanted this to never end. He felt as if he could hold her forever. He allowed his arms to make their way around her waist in turn, and his eyes met hers in a way he never thought possible had he been with someone else.
Specks of his hair splashed in front of his eyes, but he didn't mind them. He moved a finger and ever so gently, moved Rose's hair out of her own face. He wanted to say something crummy right now. Something... oh what did they refer to it as? Cheesy. That was it. He wanted to recite a poem, or tell a quote. It was all too cheesy and he didn't want to ruin the moment.
So he let his mouth stay closed. He breathed the midnight air in and out. He let himself enjoy the moment, for once in his life. He let himself feel.

Rose stared up at Griffin with wide, dark blue eyes, completely engulfed in the many colors she suddenly saw in his eyes. She had thought they were only a light, icy blue, but now that all her focus was on Griffin, Rose saw a tinge of green around his pupils. She smiled to herself at noticing this small detail about him without stopping to think why knowing this detail seemed so precise to her.
Slowly moving her hands frm around his waist to against his chest, Rose never looked away from his eyes. Her fingertips tingled with the sense of something she couldn't quite put a name to, and although her heart fluttered at speeds she didn't think possible, Rose didn't feel nervous at all beig in Griffin's arms. In fact, she felt safer than she had felt for many months.
The longer ends of his bangs brushed across his eyes, so Rose reached up to remove them from blocking her view just at the same moment that Griffin tucked a stray piece of hair back into it's place. Rose's fingers brushed away Griffin's hair from his eyes, and the shadow of a smile that had traced her lips finally break through into a grin that stretched from cheek to cheek.
Her lips trembled ever so slightly and the corners of her mouth returned to an expression of seriousness as she realized just how close she was to Griffin. Her mouth was opened just slightly, and Rose took a long breath to calm her heart. But this only resulted in his scent filling her nose, causing her mind to forget everything except for this moment.

Griffin suddenly felt the wash of emotions fall over him finally. He suddenly found himself losing his self control. Rose's hand seemed to touch him with the gentlest, but most special feel. As he withdrew his own hand, he realized he didn't know what he was getting himself into.
He didn't care.
He closed his eyes for the slimmest moment, trying to think about this and be careful. But... he just didn't care. He deserved to be happy for once, right? After more than 150 years of being on the run and doubting over his past, regretting the things he'd done, he deserved a bit of happiness, right? He stopped thinking then.
He drew his head closer to Rose's. He could feel her breathing on him now, and he was sure she felt the same. His heart quickened in pace, surprisingly. Because for such a long time, Griffin hadn't been sure it could beat at all. His eyes opened just at this length. They were merely centimeters apart now.
The temptation should have driven him mad. But... the blood wasn't what he craved. He wanted Rose's love. He wanted her full attention. And it looked like he had it. Or, at least, he hoped he did. He brought his arms higher to the spot where Rose had brought her arms on him. He whispered ever so gently, "I love you."
He didn't want this moment to be just hers, though. The one thing stopping him from diving for a kiss or anything similar, was in fact, her. He wanted her to feel the same. He had a feeling she did. Or maybe that was just hope trying to take over. But... he wanted it to be both of them in it together. Not just him controlling everything. He waited, still extremely and breathtakingly close to the beauty he considered perfect.

Rose felt chills run through her spin as Griffin slide his hands up to her ribcage, and her heart beat so fast that she wasn't sure how she could still breath. She leaned against Griffin, pressing her foreheard against his and breathing the same air as he did. She tried to swallow against the lump in her throat, but it did nothing to stop the feeling of electricity buzzing through her veins.
In the silence, Rose's mind began to wonder darkly if Griffin was acting sincerely right now or if he was just after her blood again. After all, the logical side of her mind argued, he did try once before. But Rose couldn't believe that, not with him looking at her like that, so vunerable and beautiful that Rose didn't assiciated the term 'vampire' with this boy who stood entwined with her.
All of these doubtful thoughts disappeared in less than a second when finally broke the silence with a whisper containing the three most important word to any person. Rose's breath caught in her throat at this statement, never feeling more happy in her entire life.
Finally realizing that she was just standing there silent, Rose urgently whispered, "I love you too." She seemed surprise that she had been able to repeat the words back to him, ad she bit her lip to keep the shock off her face. Not knowing what else to say or if she was even supposed to say anything else, Rose lifted herself on her toes and pressed her mouth to Griffin's lips, removing one of her hands from his chest to place her palm against his neck and press hr fingers into the side of his jaw.

When he heard Rose whisper the words, 'I love you too', Griffin's heart melted. It melted into a thousand different forms. Most of love, others of happiness and understanding, others of various different emotions and objects flowing all into one.
Suddenly, but yet slowly at the same time, they were caught in a kiss. It felt gorgeous, and beautiful... Griffin couldn't have described it any better than you could describe something you'd never witnessed before. It was almost as if he were floating on air. And Rose was the only reason gravity wasn't acting on him. She was the force between him and the rest of the world. That's how this felt, he decided later on.
Floating on air. Force between the world. It was amazing how one person could bring so much emotion, so much feeling, to a once seemingly evil creature. And, for once, Griffin liked being happy. He was glad he felt this way. And for the time being, he didn't mind if Rose crushed him later on. He could handle the heartbreak just as long as these memories stayed.
It seemed like hours before he finally pulled his own lips away. Though, he kept his face close to hers and almost leaned his forhead on top of her scalp. It was a gesture of caring, kindness, loving. These things, he hadn't known for a long time. But these things... he liked feeling. Though, he didn't like Rose. Not anymore.
He loved her more than anything he had ever known in his long spanned life.

Rose stared up into his eyes for what seemed like forever after they pulled apart. Her heart felt ready to burst from the emotions inside of it. Ever so slowly, the smile faded from her lips and her mind began to think of thoughts that were not about Griffin's eyes or the way his arms felt around her.
Melting into his arms, Rose laid her head against his chest, closing her eyes against the sudden rush of pure emotion that overcame her. The events of the whole day finally crashed down on her. In the last day she had abandoned her family, become a convict, and fell in love. The consequences of her actions were finally becoming clear.
Rose would never be able to return home, never go back to her parents. They could be out in these woods hunting down their own daughter right now. She felt as if she had betrayed her parents even more at the fact that she was perfectly happy out here with Griffin and Jamie. Even the werewolves seemed like allies now.
A tear escaped from the corner of her eyes, but she didn't bother whiping it away. Her hands were clasped to tightly to Griffin to worry about the water leaking down her face. She sniffled, still trying not to completely break down. Especailly after experiencing the most happy moment of her life, why did she have to cry now of all times?

Griffin usually wasn't sentimental, but since he felt different around Rose, he tried his hardest to comfort her. Suddenly, his mind was relaxed. He brought Rose down to sit, and let her cry into his own chest. He breathed softly, stroking her ever so gently.
He allowed her to cry, and let her do so without asking questions. He knew all too well what bringing up old memories did to you. Questions made you relive the fears or the pain. Or whatever else you felt. So, he didn't ask a question. Unless she wanted to explain, he wouldn't bring it up for now. If curiosity truly got the best of him, he could perhaps bring it up later. Tomorrow, maybe.
"Shh..." He whispered soothingly, almost as if lulling her to sleep to let the tears stop. He felt incredibly happy and peaceful. This must be what heaven feels like, he told himself. Gentle, quiet, calm. Those were all emotions he felt now. He felt a new sensation he liked. He felt love conquer all of these, though.
And a burning desire to drive himself to any limit to do what Rose wished. Was this really him? The truth was, it normally wouldn't be... but the truth also was that this was who he was becoming. And who he wanted to be.
Here. With Rose. Happy, peaceful, gentle, quiet, calm. It was all he would ever need.
He continued stroking Rose's hair, shoulders, and back, and continued to lull her to sleep until she finally would be. "Shh... everything will be fine..." he kept whispering, kept reassuring. He could never be sure, at the moment, what Rose was crying about or what she may have been thinking. Though, he didn't care. All he wanted was for her not to shed another tear, not to feel pain, if that's what she was feeling. Not to be sad, if she was indeed sad.
So, he continued.

Rose tucked herself closer to Griffin, burying her face in his chest and clenching tightly to his shirt as he sat them both down. Even though the tears began to came down faster and faster, Rose never lost total control of her emotions. She sat silently in Griffin's arms, trying to remember the happiness and care-freeness she had felt just moments before.
Pushing all thoughts of her parents to the back of her mind, her eyes stopped leaking tears. She breathed in deeply, taking in Griffin's scent and allowing it to lull her back into calm.
Glancing up at the dark, star-filled night, Rose realized that it must be the middle of her night, and her eyelids grew heavier in response. She felt so comfortable and safe cuddled up with Griffin that if she had allowed herself to close her eyes, she would have fallen asleep in seconds. But she didn't want to fall asleep yet without giving Griffin some kind of explanation for her sudden mood swing.
"I'm sorry," Rose said softly, not knowing what else to say. "I completely ruined the moment, didn't I?" she asked with a smile.
Rose loosened her grip on Griffin's shirt and placed on of her hands on his shoulder, blind in the dark and searching for his hand. She slid her palm down the length of his arm until she finally found his hands and entangled her fingers with his.

Griffin's eyes wandered to Rose's hand on his shoulders. Being what he was, he could see very well in the dark of the night. He knew she couldn't though. He was about to guide her hand when he found that she had done it herself. Smart girl, he thought. He took a moment to answer her question, though. The truth was, it hadn't really ruined the moment. After a whole day of running around with a stranger, and falling in love and finally having a few minutes like that, it would drive anyone mad.
"You didn't ruin a thing," He whispered gently. "We'll take the good with the bad. That's how it's meant to be. And, after all, I think anyone would break down after having a day like you have today," He said in the calmest tone he could manage. He felt like sweeping Rose off of her feet at the moment. He wanted to swoop her down and stare into her eyes and let her know that everything would be okay. That despite his past actions, he'd always be there for her. He would always protect her.
And, in some small way, Griffin had made that known through his actions now. Even though he didn't think or know it. "I'll do anything it takes to keep you happy," He said, pausing in thought. His mind was wrapped with emotion among other things. But his top priority was right besides him now. "Because you've made me happier than I deserve to be. A thousand times more."

Rose smiled down at their entwined hands, absent-mindedly tracing shapes against his skin with her thumb as he talked. She laid on ear against his chest, feeling the vibrations of his voice more than actually hearing the words he said. Still, Rose took in all of Griffin's words, and felt even more content after being reassured that she hadn't completely ruined the moment they had. Besides, she did agree with him that after all the events of the day, it was amazing that she hadn't borken down into tears sooner.
"Do you want to know what I think?" she asked coyly, a giddiness quickly replacing the pain and confusion she had felt before. "I think that you deserve to be happy. And even though you seem to think that you don't, you have every right to put the past behind you and find a life that you love living every day." She tightened her hold on on his hand before adding, "You don't have to try so hard to make me happy all the time. As long as your there, I'll be happy." She this matter-of-factly and with a shrug to show how obvious that should be.

Griffin gazed at Rose with such intense and moody eyes that he nearly etched her face and being into his mind forever. Although, he knew deep down that he'd remember her face for as long as he lived anyhow. And that was forever. "Really?" He asked, even though it was a rhetorical question. He could only tighten his grip and cuddle on her, a human girl he had fallen in love with in less than a day. Even though, it had seemed a long time since they first crossed paths back when he was almost caught.
"I'm glad," were the only words he could find to respond correctly. He was at a loss for any others. All he could do was continue to hug Rose tight, and hold her as if the world threatened to carry her away. "I promise I'll never let anything bad happen to you. Whatever happens, the bad comes through me first. I won't let anything happen to you..." He said, stroking her hair and put it out of her face, looking down at her in a gentle, loving way. "You do make me happy. Every action you spend makes me eternally happy..." He said in the most loving voice he knew.
