"It's fine, Connor," Kiera said, suddenly feeling awkward agian.
Cato had caught a rabbit, his muzzzle stained red from killing it. He licked some of it off, traces of the salty flavor making his mouth water. He picked it up from where he had dropped it in the snow, heading towards their meeting place.
Laika was already there, two squirrels at her feet.

Connor nodded slowly and walked a few steps away before sitting down. He felt that he pretty much blew the chance of ever having a normal conversation with Kiera again. He felt too stupid."I wish dad was here to teach me this stuff." He muttered to himself.
Dan grinned."This turned out well." He said."As long as Grants emergency food dont run out, I think we can keep all of us alive for quite some time. He shouldnt eat raw meat you know"

At this close range, Kiera's sensitive ears could easily hear the words, but she pretended as if she was unable to.

"There's the cave," Laika said, gesturing towards it with her nose. The movement made her prey swing around jerkily, and she immediatly stilled her head, trying not to move it as much as she increased her pace. Soon she was inside the cave, warm with body heat from the three dogs and human that remained inside. It would soon be heated further by Dan, Cato, and of course herself. Dropping the squirrels on the ground, she licked her muzzle, the lingering traces of squirrel making her mouth salivate.
She swallowed before speaking. "We have food!" Laika announced. Immediatly, all conversations were silenced as the word food echoed around the rocky interior. "But no one can eat a whole piece of prey," she added. A few moans of protest were uttered. "We have to make it last, guys. We don't want to starve, do we?"

"Do you want me to get you something?" Kiera asked, looking at Connor. He didn't seem as if he would move, even to get a meal, however small it would be.
"Then dig in, guys!" Laika said, grabbing one of her squirrels to share with someone.

"I'll be right back, then," Kiera siad, taking his growling stomach as a protest to his words. And the truth. She was soon sitting down next to him, a rabbit dangling from her muzzle.
Laika decided to help him make up his mind. "Want to share, Dan?" she asked, voice muffled as she spoke around the squirrel.
Cato grabbed a squirrel. Sara seemed to be the only one without food, and that seemed to be the last piece of prey. "Sara?" he called.
