Thanks guys, I'm glad you like my writing. It means a lot to me that you enjoy it. I'm still working on Heart of Steele, and it's going, although a little slower than I'd like. But as promised, here's another snippet from the story in which the mysterious grey and white husky's name is revealed. Quote: They had one stop to make at a small seaside town on the way back to trade some goods, and then they would be off again, back to Wales. Rain turned to look back at Steele as they rested while the musher took care of unloading and loading the sled. "How are you holding up back there, blue eyes? Having trouble yet?" she grinned.
Steele snorted. "You sure you can't go any faster? I think I fell asleep a couple times on that last stretch."
"Very funny," she said sarcastically. "You can go as fast as you want when you're the lead dog. On my team, we run at my pace."
"Oh, I'll be lead dog soon enough," he thought. "Don't you worry." Thanks for reading, -X

Interesting, very interesting! That did take me by surprise, I didn't expect her (Rain) to be a sled dog.

Cool, but still I wonder...if Steele does get to be lead dog, will he get another team lost?

Actually Rain knows about what happened with the serum run, and a bit earlier in the story she humiliates him with that little tidbit. But yeah, if Steele does become the lead dog, then what? What will happen to Rain, and will Steele just fall back into his old patterns? Heh heh.

I didn't get their permission, but they are credited as owning the characters from the movies. I'm not too worried about it. I'm not making a profit from it, and frankly this isn't anything that would even show up on their radar. Even if they issued a C&D I would just pull it, no big deal.

I'm not even close to being worried about it. As I said already, I'm not making a profit from it. Blurb is not YouTube, they don't have people trolling for Balto books. Even if by some miracle they did manage to find out about it, they have to send a C&D first before doing anything else. Since I'm not selling anything that belongs to them, there's not a lot they could conceivably do even if they wanted to.
Seriously. Not worried about it. Also, seeking the proper permissions would take a year out of my life that I don't feel like wasting, not to mention the cost of doing something like that.

Okay, well Togo you can remove references to it in this thread, I can't remove anything from other people's posts. Protecting BS is fine. But it's definitely not worth it to get the rights to publish something like this. It's far too expensive to be anywhere near being worth it. Since nobody will buy it anyway, it would be an exercise in complete futility.
I have dealt with this before, I have gotten permission and licensed property before. It's staggeringly expensive and tedious, and I will not do it for something like this. Period. That's enough about this in my thread, if this discussion needs to continue, move it to PM/IM.
