I have trouble respecting a viewpoint that suggests the world should end in 2012. Just because there are problems in the world doesn't mean that life should be exterminated.

The world is better off now than it was decades ago. People probably don't see this because of the lack of knowledge of history. It's almost inconceivable how close the United States was to nuclear war with the USSR at the height of the Cold War tensions. I believe the doomsday clock was at 11:58 at one point. Due to combined efforts and cooperation between nations, as well as the breakup of the USSR, the nuclear threat has been lowered significantly.

Even before this, there was the rise of fascism in Europe. And most people know about the atrocities carried out by the Nazi party in Germany. Not to mention WWII itself, as well as its overshadowed predecessor, WWI.

My point here is that the world has been far worse off before 2009. Way worse off. Yes, we still have wars, famine, disease, political corruption, genocides, etc. But things are not as bad as they were in the twentieth century. And they probably aren't going to get worse in the near future.

Since WWIII was mentioned, I have several things to say about it. First of all, there will probably never be another world war unless someone gets waaaaay out of line. And I mean even worse than Hitler and the rest of the world's universally evil people combined. Since most or all of the developed nations have nuclear weapons, there is a deterrent to a massive war. There is an argument that the possession of nuclear arms promotes peace among otherwise hostile nations, because each knows the other could easily obliterate the other. This could promote diplomatic actions rather than military action. Since the world is aware of the massive destruction that nuclear weapons (and other WMDs) can cause, countries would hypothetically be more willing to negotiate their differences. The problem with this is terrorism, which is being addressed. I don't necessarily agree with the notion that nuclear weapons promote peace, but I see the thinking behind why it would.

But enough of that. "Oh woe is me, the world sucks, end it!" genuinely pisses me off because it's a wholly uninformed stance. It is a popular stance in today's youthful society. The world all the sudden sucks because there is some corruption in the government and bad things are happening. It's a lame stance. There have always been bad things happening, and corruption has been around ever since there was government. The first-world governments are not that corrupt compared to many of the more oppressive regimes that have been taken down and the ones that are still standing today. The world is generally more civilized than it was sixty years ago, and there is more cooperation between nations to ensure that the world becomes more connected and aware. (League of Nations of post WWI and the United Nations of today, as examples.)

My universal point is that, considering many things, the world is better off today than it was a century ago. My advice to those who think the world is oh so terrible today - pay attention in history from now on. You don't know wth you're talking about.

And don't give me "NASA is covering up the truth". If they were to cover up something as big as the end of the world, we would have never even heard these theories in the first place.

And Ghost, we can believe what we want to believe. You don't have to go and act all mature and crap! Cause to tell you the truth, it pisses me off! So just stop it!

Whether or not I have too much time on my hands is irrelevant. I currently have quite a bit of time on my hands, and that is primarily because I am still on summer vacation. If I were in school, I probably would have typed up something similar. Regardless, I typed up a large post because I had several things to say.

I am merely pointing out to you that your stance is ludicrous. You may believe what you wish, say what you wish, but you are not above criticism. That aside, you've given no indication that you know what you're talking about.

Assuming good grades alone = knowledge is a big no-no. You have dodged 95%+ of everything I have said up to this point. I will not reply again after this because it is a waste. I counter one point of yours and then you're onto something else to offset what I say.

And we gave you our opinion. Get over it? ;)

I'll be frank. If you don't want your intelligence questioned/insulted/scrutinized, then show some.

So okay I say I want the world to end due to humanity going downhill. I get told I don't know what I'm talking about. Well it was just opinion it doesn't require any knowledge.
