In the Name of Aniu (Sequel to Balto: Alternate Ending)

Positive no one was following behind them, Cale moved back up next to his leader as they made their way deeper into the forest. Listening to Keso, he would nod and grin having a very good guess of who Keso was talking about, and watched as the remainder of the pack split off leaving just Keso and him to travel along. Coming to a stop as the half black dog came out of nowhere in front of him, he would take a seat keeping completely quiet so as not to interrupt Keso or Nexus, having a good idea of what would happen if he did, even if he was beta. His ears seemed to keep perking up and swiveling about as he listened to every inch of the forest around them, and his tail moved along the ground quickly as if expecting something, anything to happen at any moment to add to their already adventurous day.

(I appologize profusely for this being as long as it is, I just felt I needed to finish explaining things in the roleplay with Nexus as fast as possible so the rest of the roleplay could resume. Again, sorry!)

The black half-wolf dubbed Nexus gazed at both with mild interest and then nodded to them as they neared. He had few scares or blemishes to mar his appearance, save a cross shaped one on his cheek he had recieved in a fight for his life with a local husky. His orbs were both a warm auburn and suggested that he was good-natured at heart. One might wonder just why he associated with the two dark creatures before him. "Hello Keso, Cale. I wasn't sure what to expect when you called a meeting with me tonight, but then again, with you it's always something."

Keso smirked and shook his head lightly. "Ah Nexus. You prejudge me. I have no foul work for you this day, merely a proposal. I would like you to simply keep an eye on a few of the dogs in Nome and perhaps an eye in the woods as well if you ever get the chance. As I remember you are friendly with a few of the packs that reside there. Just get the gossip and rumors that go around and then bring them back to either Cale or me. One of us will meet you at this spot once every couple of days. Savvy?"

Nexus sighed and nodded. "Alright, I will do this small task for you. What are the names of these wolves and dogs you wish me to spy on for you?"

Keso frowned before replying. "Oh now Nexus, spying is such a harsh word. Though the truth it may be. Alright, there is a half-wolf brute dubbed Balto, a red and white husky fae dubbed Jenna, and two other wolves he has formed ties with dubbed Kalgorn and Boomer. Kalgorn is the alphen of one of the packs in the forest, though I assume you must have heard of at least he and the half-wolf."

Nexus' eyes widened at the mention of both Balto and Kalgorn. He took a breath before he replied. "Many of the dogs in Nome consider Balto a hero. He brought back the medicine to heal the children from the Diptheria epidemic. And Kalgorn, yes, I have heard tell of him, though not too much." He paused, noting the doubt that had now formed in Keso's orbs. "But if you really wish for me to keep an eye out on them, I shall and I'll make no complaints."

Keso's grin returned, implying innocence that the wolf himself had never posessed. "Good, good. Thank you for your assisstance Nexus. And of course as always, your services will get you a little reward of some type, so long as your work is good and you keep our little bargain a secret." A howl pierced the air and with this Keso said, "And that's my cue. We must be off. I'll expect to see you back here in at least two days time. If I cannot make the date, I'll send a scout to notify you of the change. Ta ta." The dark wolf turned and disappeared back into the forest, never looking back once. Nexus stood, shaking his head a bit and then began his own weary walk back to the town of Nome.

(She's still back in the clearing with Balto, Kalgorn and Boomer. Keso and Cale had some business to attend to and ran off, XD. I'm explaining exactly what the business is in my posts and the next one I make should involve you guys a bit more.)

Light.
In the midst of his perceived world, there was light. Warm and inviting, it almost beckoned to him. Taken aback by this mysterious aura, Balto approached it warily.
Suddenly, the light took the form of an animal, no, a wolf. A beautiful white wolf sat looking at him.
"Mother?" he whispered. Looking closer, he saw tears welling up in her eyes. "What's happened?" She bowed her head and once again he was cast into the swirling darkness.

Cale smiled a bit as he continuously watched around them for any signs of something wrong, or a possibility of another being there with them. Once he assured himself there were none, he'd turn his attention back towards his alpha and Nexus, listening as his alpha named off all that he wished to be spied on and especially grinned when Balto's name was said. Hearing Nexus would do his requested task, Cale smiled a big more glad he didn't resist, and would hear the howl and turned in the direction, nodding towards Nexus before running off behind Keso, running up along side of him smiling evilly still as he spoke in his cold chilling tone "now the real fun begins!"

(Yeah, this one's long too, but I'm sorry, it couldn't be helped! The next one will be shorter, I promise! Though hopefully not too short. And Stark, I don't really see why you couldn't.)

Keso continued on to the other clearing where his pack and his pawns stood awaiting his arrival. Upon entering the clearing where his group of scouts and at least three other packs of wolves, or so it seemed, stood unknowingly surrounded by the remainder of the Hailstorms, Keso feigned speech in a gentle tone. "Brothers, I have asked you here tonight for one reason and one reason alone. I wish that you might allign yourselves with us Hailstorms in our quest for vengeance. Will you do this?"

A hush fell over the voices which had been murmuring quietly until then and a few tentative nods could be seen from some of the alphas. One grey pelted one however stepped forward and said defiantly to the Hailstorm leader, "No Keso. We do not agree with your ways of doing things. You murder the innocent for your causes and prey upon the weak to do your bidding and cower before you. We will not submit to this kind of treatment, nor will we condone it! Brothers, do you agree with me? If you do, lend me your voices!" Shouts of approval at the comment came forth at this and it seemed as though those who had been swayed by Keso's power had suddenly changed their minds.

Keso sighed and nodded to them. "Well, it appears that you have all rallied against us. In that case, there is only one alternative." He paused before allowing an insanely wicked grin to show itself on his maw as he shouted to his hidden warriors and the group of scouts, "They are not worthy of this task and so they are to be eliminated with the others! Attack!"

His hordes streamed forth from their hiding places and attacked the other packs viciously. Keso took a few steps back to watch the chaos and destruction of them with an unbelievable joy. It took only seconds and the Hailstorms had finished their duties, every wolf from the packs lay either dead upon the ground, or captured as prisoners of war, slaves to the Hailstorms. Keso flicked his tail and turned to leave as his soldiers shouted one last battle cry into the night.

"In the name of Aniu!"

Once the cheers and shouts had subsided, they formed ranks and marched their way back to the Hailstorm terra, their mission of destruction for the night completed. The massacre of the wolves in the clearing lay directly in the path of Balto and the others as they would make their ways back to their homes, an unavoidable menace that loomed spookily in the night.

Nexus had been on his way back to Nome when he heard the cries and shouts of the massacre in place. He quickly turned back and fled swiftly to the woods, fearing Keso had done the worst and his thoughts were answered at the sight of the massacre. He gasped and turned his eyes away, ashamed of what he was doing, though fearing Keso's wrath much more than anything. He turned towards the scents of Balto and the others, deciding if nothing else, he had to alert them of what had happened and so would soon be seen huffing, coming into the clearing.

"Balto, Balto, there's been a massacre! Just up ahead on the path in another clearing. You must come!"

Nexus already knew who the perpetrator of the deed was, but if nothing else, at least alerting Balto to the crime made him feel a little less guilty about the betrayal that was sure to come later on, though it appeared the half wolf was unconscious at the moment.
