If you do have the commentary (which is not 1h but more 20min if I recall well), then you also have the widescreen format version. But I still don't understand why people can't get that : full screen CUTS the original image of the films, so that you won't be able to see many parts of the original picture with full screen / span and scan. (almost 1/3 of the picture!!) So, no, sorry, it really matters. Not even mentionning that widescreen is the future format for ALL the TV sets. (high definition formats are only widescreen)

Really?! I didn't know that the DVD had widescreen  I don't think I have ever used it. But I quess I didn't think about it that way, Steet. Your right, I guess it does matter that all the TV sets will need it. I never realised that ;) Thanks for pointing that out Steet! So, on with the petition!

To be clear :
- The european (and other non-US countries) DVD has got : widescreen picture (a bit of the original image is cut at the bottom, though), and the little documentary about the true story. (mainly)
- The US DVD has : pan & scan picture (original picture resized to fit full screen), and useless extras with only a DVD game which is totally uninteresting.

Since the main market is the USA, I've mostly talked about this DVD in the petition; but the other dvd isn't that wonderful either.

Oh yes, since I have both DVDs, I have noticed a BUG in the film itself in the US dvd :
When Balto is going back to the boat at the beginning of the film, the scene with the wolves is shown twice... Someone pointed out that at The icy boards, and I can confirm this. This shows (again) how much care Universal Home Video has for Balto.

Yes of course, you don't need my permission for doing this!

Well, the one I have, which is of course the european has the documentary that I thought was quite good, but thats it. Only a trailer. The US DVD sounds dissapointing. The DVD does need some big changes then. Hopefully this petition will get through to some heads.

Speaking of Special Edition dvds, there will be a new SE dvd release for...

Secret of NIMH !!

Read this :

Message: I recently watched the DVD of The Secret of NIMH, and noticed a lot of scratches and blurry sections in the transfer. Are there any plans whatsoever to have the film restored in any way? I loved it as a child and hope that it doesn't deteriorate any more than it apparently has.
Reply: David, Thank you for writing. Actually, we just completed a re-mastering of the film for a new DVD which will be coming out next year. If all goes according to the marketing plan, it will feature an HDTV 16X9 version, a 1:1.85 letterbox version and a full screen version. It will have all the minutia, including negative dirt and scratches removed. We are doing a producer/director's commentary and on camera interviews for the "extras" in about two weeks. When we know the release date of , we will post it on the homepage of this site. Right now, we believe it will be in March or April. The new master looks beautiful! MGM/UA is releasing it thru 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. Regards.

Now, I swear that if Universal refuses to make a SE DVD for Balto, I'll make a trip to California and kill them

I will soon send an email to everyone who is registered on the site. This could help getting more signatures, as I'm sure many people don't visit the site often or at all.

I have written the text, and I need to know if it's correct :

Balto Special Edition DVD petition

Quote:
Hello,

This is steet from Balto Source. You're receiving this email because you're registered on my site.

And if you're registered on my site, then this probably means you like Balto.

Recently, we have started a new petition in order to get Universal to release a Special Edition DVD of the original Balto. I think you will all pretty much agree on the fact that the current DVD release does not give any justice to this wonderful film.

For example, where are the good extras such as commentaries, deleted scenes, etc...?

It would also help going back to the root of the franchise, and making many people to discover the film.

The petition link is :

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/328925814

Signing the petition will only take you one minute. Of course, this is free and doesn't commit you to anything!

Also, if you sign the petition, don't forget to spread the word! Be active, send emails to your friend, talk about it on your blog, on forums, etc... the more signatures we get, the more chance we have to convince Universal!

If you have any question, just ask me by replying this message.

Bye

Tell me if there are mistakes.

I hope you do not mind Steet that I reworded a few short phrases so they fit better, some of the words were just a little out of place.
