When the word (and I'm doing this purely for example purposes) *a*s*s* comes up as *** that means we probably aren't suposed to be using it. Cheating the system is just wrong. Let's all remember that there are impressionable little children that come on this site and try to keep our language acceptable... (I mean come on, if I can do it you can too. I'm a Marine, my language isn't exactly saint-like. lol)
Anyway, I guess that's all I have for now.
You guys have a nice day!

So you are wagging a finger at people who try to get around the automatic censorship of certain words on the forums, but you feel that there shouldn't be censorship of violent or deviant fan fictions?

Great double standard there...

Don't pick fights, he's making a heck of a point. Fanfics are different than forum posts, which are open to EVERYONE (fanfics not AS much).

Quote:
Looking at a dog in that way is just wrong! ... So I say why cheapen Balto with dirty animal fettishes?
In addition why destroy that fantastic innocense the movies have with bringing 'adult themes' into it?

Just to point out to everyone, many of us who write (or rather "wrote") adult themed stories don't have a "fetish" with dirty animal stories. Just because we write about it, doesn't mean we believe in it or practice it. It's all a matter of interest, like we've said, and also like what Juuchan said, we're bored out of our minds, and bored arists of any sort tend to do unusual things, which is true (an artist who helped make "Secret of NIMH" sketched a picture of Mrs. Brisby and Justin making merry [ok, maybe not "making merry" but were merely in the middle of a passionate kiss] and really, why would an artist who helped make such a good film draw such a thing? Really, all I can think is boredom. Maybe all of the doodling of a kiddy-movie caused him/her to snap. It'd sure make me snap lol But that's not the point.) And naturally we don't expect people to understand.

And really, if the makers of Balto3 were to even give Kodi a SLIGHT lady interest (meaning more than what went on between him and Dusty in the movie [and c'mon, why would you worry more about a secondary character's love interest over a main character's love interest? Giving Kodi a love interest over Ralph would make MUCH more sense. According to PW, there wasn't time, but as far as I'm concerned, if there was time to give Ralph a girlfriend, take THAT away, there'd have been plenty of room for Kodi, but not enough room for people to question whom and what he likes. I'm rambling, but PLEASE try and make sense out of that lol]) I wouldn't be thinking such demented thoughts lol

So if anyone's to really "blame" (that is, if you want to point fingers) it's the people who said "Hey, forget Kodi, let's start a (somewhat romantic) plotline between Ralph and Dusty." Or you can just blame the STUPID fans (not the "normal" ones) But no matter what we say or do we all (and ESPECIALLY the fanshippers) should...

Quote:
..."Shut UP and Deal with it"...

So basically, it all comes down to the fanshippers right? Cuz obviously there are people out here who are not crazy fans and seem to be less of an annoyance/problem to people (we who also don't JUST write about the love of two characters) lol The fanshippers need to go XD They're freaking everybody out! :cat:

You know, I don't want to seem nasty or anything and I am not speaking to specific people or anything, but someone should lock this before it becomes one big flame war. :?

Forgive me but I don't think pairing up characters in various different ways is that original, if people were really bored and wanted something new and fresh then they would write something completely mad and off the wall like.. well I don't know what about the events and lives of the fleas on Balto's back??? LOL

Anyway what is a 'fanshipper'? How do you qualify to be one? Does it pay well and do you get any benefits such as a dental plan?

EDIT

How about no? How are people meant to discuss anything to an actual end if people keep screaming LOCK! round ever corner!?!

I agree, but you know what:

Why lock it?

I'll just make a new one. We might as well keep this "rantage/not-quite war" in one topic so that it doesn't flood into other ones. Makes sense, right?

And besides, I want my own ranting topic, and this is it. If I choose to rant about something that causes others to rant along with me, what's the f-ing problem with that? This is a rant forum, nonetheless, so allow me (and my replying friends) to rant about things on the site that we choose to rant about!

Hey, at least we're not ranting in the WQ board about the "numerous bloopers and crappy storyline" or in the WoC board on "the gayshippers" or in the Balto board about "What if Balto died and Steele hooked up with Jenna stuff", right?

So . . . I dunno. I have my right to rant, so don't try to take those rights away from me. (everyone else has that right too, you know, but you make a point. Hopefully this will not be locked . . . for I will be ultimately ticked off.)

A double-standard is a double-standard. The issue is not how different forum posts are from fan fics. The issue is that no one can have it both ways. The site is the site, and the standard is the standard. And fan fics posted on this site (either on the forums, or on the main site) are subject to the very same standards that any post here, or on the main site, is.

I wasn't screaming LOCK, I only meant that people are getting a bit angry that's all  And alright, Juuchan17, I see what you mean.

Well, fanfics don't automatically censor out curse words like the forum posts do, so that MUST mean something. Plus, I don't see your fanfics living up to your "language" either. But whatever. I'm not starting a fight. :bounce: But I must say censoring out words like "b!tch" is a tad ridiculous *ponders ranting about that*

Cat, my fan fics fall so far INTO the accepted guidelines it's ridiculous.

Hmm, that is original . . . never thought of that one!

And here's my definition of a "fanshipper":

Fanshipper: A person who supports (or "ships") a certain couple/pairing/whatever from a certain series, movie, book series, etc. Warning: Fanshippers can be quite difficult to talk to when dealing with other "shippings" outside of their own or ones they do not agree with (For example - I like Kodi/Dusty, but Cat likes Kodi/Kirby. (again, this is only an example. I am not a "shipper", I can easily accept many pairings.), and they can tend to be obsessively willing to turn others to their certain "shipping".

Many "shippings" have certain fan names too - for example: I have nicknamed the Kodi/Kirby shipping as "Gay-shipping" . . . only because that's the only "gay" coupling I've seen so far (and I hope it's the only one too!).

I hope this helps you, Ac!

This is purely directed to Baltoseppala as an explanation for my previous statement. I mean NO harm or disrespect when I say this.
Notice Baltoseppala that I did not say "thou shalt not curse", in fact I said my own language wasn't exactly "saint-like" (I mean, come on, I'm a Marine...) Anyway, there is a monumental difference between the forums and my fics, and it is simply this...

At the beginning of EVERY ONE of my stories without fail I put this paragragh...

"Warning! This fic is rated PG-13 for violence, sexual situations, the consumption of alcohol and mild language. Reader’s discretion is advised!"

(this example was taken from my latest fic "Saywer's Falls")

Now, I don't know about you, but I CLEARLY see the "warning!" the "PG-13" and the "Violence, Sexual Situations, Consumption of Alcohol and Mild Language". Now, I don't believe I saw a warning anything like that at the top of ANY of the posts in which the members were circumventing the censorship program.
If people see my warning, decide to read it, and then get pissed because they're offended... I'm gonna call them an idiot, straight up. Read the freakin' warnings.

I didn't say it was wrong to swear I mean ****, I do it every day. I merely said that the forums which are open to the access of anyone, regardless of age, was not the place for that kind of language, hence the censorship program.
Think of it this way. Would you say things like that in a bar? Yeah, probably, but, would you say them in a church? Probably not.
My point is (and then I'm done) that there is a time and place for everything and this is not the place for that.

As a side note, I do not condone double standards.

Have a great day!

Hmm . . .

Well, I think all I feel like saying right now is mentioned on my new sig. Believe in the words of the Almighty Jenna!

(*this is NOT pointless banter, it's a rant response in a sig* XD)

You're coming back to a point that we already discussed : a warning message alone can't prevent any child to read the fanfic, on the contrary they will be curious and will be more likely to read it.
Unfortunately there is no possible way on the web to prevent this.

Imagine that a parent of a child would send me emails about such fanfics (that it is not acceptable to see such things on a site with children visitors), and will want them to be removed (this has already happened in fact) : I don't have any choice, because this is my responsability to remove them according to the law.

FINALLY...some deep logic in this topic (no criticism of Juuchan or Ac, though...who have made very logical arguments, as I believe I have...most of the rest, with but a very few select exceptions, is just a lot of the same old, tired b.s.).

It's good to hear that you are listening to the viewer's problems and doing something to help them out, Steet. That is what makes a good site administrator.

But isn't it also the parent's responsibility to supervise their children while they are surfing the 'Net?
