Cross didn't reply. Instead, the young dog forced her legs to walk her to her house. Once she reached the gate, Cross slid into the hole she dug out and ended up on the inside of her yard.
"They're still sleep," she said to herself as she looked into the dark second-story window oh her owners' house.

Cross walked into to her wooden doghouse her owners' little girl helped to build for her new puppy. Smiling, the puppy walked around in a circle on the comfy beige pillow placed in the center of the house and lied down on it. She closed her eyes and thought of Bruce, but the image of Scamp licking her invaded her mind and Cross covered her head with her paws.

Cross was able to get a little bit of sleep that night, but she still remembered Scamp. I'm not going back to the gang she told herself firmly. Scamp just might show up and Angel might get mad if he hangs out with me more...

Back at the alley, Kandas was attempting to wake Jeremy up. None of the other members were awake and he knew they'd snap at him, especially Owl, if he woke them up, so he decided to try and rouse "Spooky" Jeremy from his slumber.

"Jeremy! Wake up!" Kandas growled and pushed the smaller dog's shoulder.

The cream and brown puppy woke with a start and would have screamed his head off if Kandas hadn't hushed him. "Dynamite! What the heck?!"

Kandas chuckled and sat down. "Dude, I'm bored!" He lied down and looked at Jeremy. "Wanna go chase the dogcatcher's truck?"

Jeremy cried out in fright and jumped over Kandas, his hind foot smacking into the yellow dog's head in the process, and ran toward the train tracks.

"Jeremy!" Kandas yelped and pawed at the spot where the other's foot connected with his forehead.

Owl's ears shot up at the sound of screaming and the older dog looked over to see Jeremy making a bee-line straight for her. Owl didn't even think twice before leaping out the charging puppy's way.

Owl frowned as Jeremy tripped over a rail and landed on the tracks with a thud. Huffing, she looked over to the entrance: There was Kandas holding his head, T.P had awoken, too, and...the mix bred puppy noticed a flash of gray running from the alley and dashed after it. "Come back here!" she demanded the intruder.

Owl stopped at the entrance to Scamp's house. She growled and paced back and forth in front of the building; she really did not want to be on Snob Hill. "You're so brave you can disturb my gang," she barked at the door. "But you can't come out and face me? I'll give you five seconds to show yourself or I'm coming in!"

Owl pushed the slightly larger dog away from her. Stepping back, she tried to shake the annoying pain from her ear. "Oh, it's you," Owl said once she finally got a good look at the other puppy. "What were you doing in our alley?" Owl sat down and scratched at her collar.
