Danielle kept her head down and her tail between her legs, which became a leass forced action as she passed Tanya. She hurried out the door.

Tera waited for them to be out of sight of Tanya. "Alright, we're out of there."
Aleu came up to her grandfather and nuzzled him comfortingly. "I'm sorry that happened to you." she said. "...Aniu was one of those wolves that the world didn't deserve to lose." she said. "She was taken away protecting her pups, from what I can get from dad's nighttime outbursts, he had a lot of nightmares aobut it."

"I'll go back in that house when Mom's out of it," Sara added.
"Well, I would imagine so," Scout said. "He and his sister were barely into puppyhood when it happened."

Danielle chuckled. "It's okay. I knew you'd come aorund eventually. At least by this time tomorrow, we won't have to worry about her anymore."
"Yes, he does," Scout said. "Or did. I remember there were four pups. The youngest was as white as snow. The wo middle pups were black, like Aniu's father and my mother. The oldest, Balto, looked like me. I only got to see them once. I was visiting Aniu that day to name them, but when I arrived at her den..." Scout stopped to clear the terrible image in his mind, one large white body and to small black ones covered in blood. "Anyways, I never knew what happend to Balto, and I still don't know about my daughter, the one that looks like her mother."

"I'm sorry." said Aleu. "But hey, there's still hope for her, dad was still alive, so she might be alive as well." she said. "Maybe she's with one of the wolf packs." she said. "From what you said, she looks more wolf than dog so that would make sense." she said. "Boris said Balto was healthy when he came to Nome, so he must of had someone helping him survive out there right?"
