Dang. How did I miss THAT topic? But that's another good point, Kari. Man...Dingo did right by locking that one. And as Steet said here, such a topic doesn't belong on this site. It doesn't mean people hate gays...it does mean that this forum is not a place to discuss such issues. And that is certainly not a topic for KIDS.

So far nothing like that has really happened so maybe I'm doing an ok job.... In all truth, you are one of the best mods on the site. No worries with you, Black Shimmer. I've NEVER heard or seen any criticism about you... Thank you for the compliment. But is that a sign that I'm not doing enough? >.> I try to avoid banning members and wait for the other mods to do that...but I just look around for those "meany topics" and make them go bye-bye....
Well, look...it is just as possible to exert TOO heavy a hand with moderating duties as it is to not take enough of a role. It's a balancing act. And, truthfully, there are global mods (from what I have seen myself, and from what I have seen others say) who are guilty of either.

I have nothing against homosexuals at all, heck, some of my friends are. But, like someone else said in that topic (a little too rudely, if I may add...) it's definately not a topic for the little children of this forum. People rarely consider the younger people anymore, and just post topics that they want to talk about. It's more logical to ask yourself if a younger person (around 7-10 years) would be able to read, understand, and not be offended by whatever you're posting. Psst...I still am. XP

What's that all about? This board is FOR this kind of discussion. No one's gonna work out anything so long as there are people who say things like that.

Look, I respect that. And I have nothing at all against you dude. It's cool. But if it doesn't move this particular discussion forward, then what's the point? You only trigger comments like mine (or worse). No one, that I've seen, has yet "beat a dead horse" here.

Dingo wrote: Okay, here's what's wrong here. There's one of two problems going on. Either:
1. ZergSwarms is right, and we as mods are doing something wrong.
Or:
2. ZergSwarms is wrong, and apparently there's a big misunderstanding between the moderators and some of the members here.
Either way, there is some sort of problem here (either moderation or communication) that desperately needs to be fixed. Now, it seems from most of the posts in this topic that the latter of these two possibilities is the more likely. So now that we know what the problem is, let's work toward solving it.
We are moderators. Our job is to lock topics that need to be locked, ban members who need to be banned, and other things to that effect. Sometimes we make a bad call (or, at least, someone thinks we did). In that case, whoever it is that thinks we made a mistake needs to PM us about it. If we actually did make a mistake, then we'll fix it. If we didn't make a mistake, we'll explain why to the member who brings it up. So yes, we appreciate member feedback very much. It lets us know that there's some sort of problem somewhere within the confines of the forum, and it allows us to fix it.
Very wise, Dingo. But, as you know, there is often the case where one moderator decides (after some consideration maybe) to unban someone whom another mod banned and, when that other mod (and his or her friends) finds out, then there is this grumbling about "oh, he (or she) did that because that person is his/her FRIEND, and that just SUCKS!" Or, as has also been the case on a few occasions, people end up being on what I've heard is the "banned list", and the person who was banned has never heard WHY. And they are SUPPOSED to know why...and the mod who banned him (or her) has an obligation to do that. When that mod doesn't, that looks suspicious.
And so the vicious cycle goes. And it does need to be tended to.

whoever came up with that is a true genius. I commend them for that idea.

I agree, I think that anyone who wants to talk about...ummm...questionable things....should find somewhere else to talk about it...because there are kids on this site...

maybe they shoudl send them something called the Lockmaster 4000. It's a funny checklist that a mod can customize for that perpitrator of the fight.
it's really effective. I've had people messing with my forum, and I sent them the checklist, and they left the next day. No questions asked.
