not trying to be biblical here but in the bible it says that they don't and that only humans have souls..........that sets us apart from them..........but that is just again only me....but it does say that ..........i dunno....but it is something to think about and consider.... :D

Animals don't have souls???? Ofcourse they do - anything living has a life, its own personality, its own thoughts!!!! Canines, of all things, are very intelligentand they do plan things, and they have very good memories  ... I don't understand why the Bible would say that only humans have souls! Everyone, however, is entitled to their own opinion....

In the philshophical sense, I disagree that animls do not have souls. Man is a selfish overly proud misrible being, while animls have remained the same. Man has made the change, so he thinks he moving, the world for himself, and animls are just simple minded. What if they are the dominant ones, and its just an illsion whos supioerer.

and yeah personally.... the thery of the bible is messed up. Animls will remain their simple selves and remain that way forever, where man will bring changge is has mind his soul. Animls have simple wisdom we ignore

I really don't get the logic , I mean we talk about animals not having souls, well the real question is: Why do we think they don't. Lets look at this, its proven that being around animals lowers stress extremly and if we really studied animals, they're a heck alot more intelligent and loving than almost all of us humans. Think about this, animals always help and work togther as a team and live alot more happily amongst themselves than humans do. They care alot more about family and friends than pretty much any human. Just saying this, if animals don't have souls, we humans sure don't have souls. Just for the record, just my point of view:
there has already been proof that jesus taught different messages than what the christian church says. theres a deeper truth he taught, God's to be loved not feared, we could learn alot from animals if we just listened.

Since the topic was "moved" to here, I'll repost what I said so that others may respond to it if they so choose.

Well, I'm going to rely somewhat on Catholic theology here, with a generous portion of my own personal beliefs here.

No, I don't believe animals have souls, in the sense of a "Christian" soul. Most Christians regard the soul as the immortal essence of a human - the seat or locus of human will, understanding, and personality - and that after death, God either rewards or punishes the soul based on one's life and deeds on earth, most notably belief in Jesus Christ as the Redeemer and Son of God. I don't believe that animals are ensouled in the fashion. I believe that when Jesus died on the cross, he redeemed the souls of all mankind. I don't believe that he died for all the mosquitoes and dogs and elephants around the world also.

However, I do believe that animals go to heaven and if a person is lucky enough to get there, God will allow us to see our furred and feathered (and scaled and what have you) friends that have passed away again. I don't think that God would keep our pets from us in the eternal paradise of heaven.

In conclusion, do I believe that animals have souls? No. Do I believe that they will go to heaven when they die and that we can see them again after our own death? Yes. I believe that St. Francis of Assisi watches over our animal friends and that in the eternal paradise of heaven, "The lion shall lay down with the lamb and the child shall lead them".

I agree with you 100% Hrry Nrmn.I've wondered about this for a while, but I agree with you: animals don't have souls (as the Bible says) BUT God will let us see our animals in paradise. Why? Because they are God's creations, too, and God must care for them as much as he cares for us.

Please don't be mean, just saying what I believe in, as a Catholic.

I believe only animals that recognize their own mortality can possess a soul or animals with higher brain functions. I don't believe insects like ants or flies possess one. I prefer to think instead of going to heaven they join the world in some other form like a blade of grass or a tree. Since in my opinion a soul is nothing but matter which would technically coincide with the Christian view of a soul which it is immortal and cannot be destroyed neither can matter. But why should only humans possess a soul just because we think we have more of a grasp on the natural world around us. In my experience with animals you look into their eyes and something more is their in their gaze.

I beleive that all creatures have souls, down to the last ugly little flea and that most humans are just greedy and jealous.

Of course they have souls! We're animals too! I must say I hate humans. We cause global warming, polution, violence,....... The world would be better off without us, because we are hurting the other animals.
