"Ian." The man replied gruffly, he was often just barked at using his last name, Kirkland, by his bosses, so someone calling him by his name would be..interesting.

"OK, Ian." Kat said, trying the name out on her tongue, but it made her uneasy. What if this man did end up killing her? She'd know a lot about him by the time they reach the top of the mountain.

Ian stayed silent, and continued along his path, before pausing. He turned and walked around a large tree, pointing out to Kat where there was another little trip wire, leading up to where a knife was tied to the tree, poised to stab the person who'd triggered it.

Kat nodded and stepped over the trip wire. She rolled her shoulders back and nodded at Ian.
"How'd you spot it?" She asked, continuing to walk.

"Like I said, I know where everything is." Ian remarked boredly, continuing his slow and easy stride.

"But if you never get out of the castle, how do you know?" She asked, before her question turned into another.
"How did you become an assassin, anyways?" Kat asked, her extreme ADD making the questions roll off her tongue easily and without much thought.

Ian whipped around, his shoulders stiff.
"You should shut up before I kill you now." He growled in a low threatening tone.

"Why? Is it a sad story? Is it too personal?" She asked, not knowing how annoying she could be.

"No, it's none of your business, Now shut up." Ian grunted again.

"Touchy." Kat growled, as they walked on. There was a brief howl, and Kat paused, the hairs on her arms shooting up. Another howl fallowed it, and Kat's heart grew frantic.
"Did you hear that?" She asked as a cool breeze ripped through her. Another howl sounded off, like a ghost haunting them.

Ian looked around, but saw the animals as no immediate threat.
"Yup."

"Sounds like wolves...A lot of wolves.." Kat said, listening intently. She inhaled deeply, trying to guess how far they were. It was still dark out, and Kat could hardly see past her nose. The sounds of paws on crunching leaves made her go ridged. There was a snarl, then something jumped from the brush and forced Kat to the ground. She screamed, blindly hitting at the dark, snarling figure as it chomped into her shoulder.

Ian moved quickly, slicing through the wolf's fur and neck as another jumped onto his back. He bit his tongue to keep himself from screaming as it snapped onto his arm, and he simply fell backwards to crush it to the ground.

Kat sprung up and crawled to her satchel, her arm bleeding heavily. She reached in the black bag and grasped her knife. Just as she grabbed it, another wolf came at her, but she put her arm up just in time. The wolf stood over her, snapping at her face and she pushed its head back with her forearm. The small girl sank the knife into its shoulder and the wolf yelped and double back. Kat scrambled backwards pointing the knife anywhere as she leaned back against a tree.

Chaos had erupted, wolves, all bigger than her, were swarming around. Running and howling and running up to her. Kat did her best to slice at them, but there were too many, she looked blindly around for Ian as one sank its jaws into her shin.

Ian moved fiercly, slicing and stabbing away at the wolves, making his way towards Kat. His teal eyes shined with bright pleasure as he heard their yelps of pain.

"Kay move back!" He barked, and as soon as she did, he stepped into her place, taking on the wolves with ease.
