I am very pleased to report that, after a discussion with Hecate (and Kirada, and Jordan and some others) on the BS shoutbox earlier today, we've moved towards a "next step". Hecate has graciously agreed to meet with me, and with whomever else would like to (IF you are one of those who is seriously committed to seeing the English side of Animation Source, where this is a problem, get back to the rules it actually once had regarding submissions and the more or less active monitoring OF those submissions), to discuss this and how we can get steet to start getting the site back on track.

You'll need to PM me your Skype name (and if you don't have Skype yet, and would like to participate, you'd better darned well start downloading it and getting that name to me), and after we all agree to a date or two (or three, depending upon how this goes), we can get rolling! We needn't do voice chat. We can stick to text chat if you wish. OR, the braver among you are welcome to do voice while the others stick to text (it is possible to do that even in a voice chat).

PM me if you're interested, and give me your Skype details. I'll come up with a few dates, and we'll narrow it down from there. Remember that Hecate is in BELGIUM, so this chat will have to reflect a good time frame and day that won't be too inconveniencing to anyone, but may require a tiny bit of sacrifice from those on the fringes of the time frame. lol

This is very good news. And since I do want to see Balto Source in its former glory, I'm going to start deleting everything Un-Balto related from my galleries first. Then I can think about trying to get my skype working again (or make a new one) so that I could participate in this discussion.

But I don't want to get too ahead of myself. I'll just start with the deleting for now.

Natti, you needn't fear Skype. lol You really ought to consider getting it. A lot of people use it, businesses use it. It makes sense. It can be a bit laggy and even buggy from time to time, but it really is handy.

Back on topic...

A few people may remember when Grey wolf was trying to get rules that would help keep order on the Sources. Poor girl, the trolls made such a fuss over it (back when they were mods), and people literally threatened to leave the site over it. The worst part? Most of the rules that she made were ones that we've at least suggested in this thread.

That link will take you to the rules as they were right before they were disabled. Please do not post a comment, out of respect: consider it more as a time capsule. They were ammended SEVERAL times, each time bringing it closer to the way things are now, and each time with more and more people complaining.

There were other rules people complained about as well, but this is the one that this topic is about, so that's the only one I'll link you all to.

The following conversation took place earlier today on one of the character pages of a certain member...one who has a problem with those who think that the sources should belong to the fans of the movies they...source. Even though he waffled about it a moment later, here is the gist of the conversation he had with another member. (I point this out as much because it is demonstrative of the growing chasm between those who care about preserving this site for FANS and those who think this place should be nothing more than a personal art/fiction gallery for each member, as because the person whose character page this appears on has turned to attacking me and others who are dedicated to the fan aspects of this site, bawwwing about those who tuck tail and run after doing their own bawwwing because they CAN'T use AS as their own personal art galleries -- he's even stooped to lying and submitting falsified reports against me to the mods in order to exact some sort of vengeance I suppose. Weird.)

It doesn't. It's making OCs that have little to nothing to do with the Source material that we don't like.

...I think we've just stumbled upon another piece of the problem: people interpret the term "FAN" far too loosley. Just because your character, drawing, etc. is a wolf or other species that appears in the movie dose NOT make it a "fan" work!

^^This, you win Natti. I can draw a picture (albeit a horrible one) of some random creature, let's say a unicorn or a pony. Does that make me a fan of the My Little Pony series? Heck no! At least, not since a while anyway *cough cough* Or a snowflake, snow appears in Balto too Lol, under that logic and reasoning, anything you draw, as long as it appears in the movie of course makes you a fan! Yay.

There's a difference between liking something and being a fan of it.

To like something, in terms of fan art, means to just draw something related to a movie or TV show and post it somewhere, (something like that) and it's okay if you only like something!

A true fan would be completely committed to drawing only characters from from that particular movie or TV show. Well, not 24/7 obviously, but on a fan site dedicated to that movie.

I like a lot of things. Oranges, pencils, vacations, softball, wasting time on the internet XD and if we're talking about movies. Animated--Lion King, Beauty and the Beast; Live Action--Just Go with It, Benchwarmers, and Valentine's Day (I'm a sucker for comedies XD)

But if I want to be a FAN of these things...I would be almost obsessed with them!

And then there is the size of fan. Meaning are you a BIG fan...or only a small fan? This is where it gets tricky... and I also think it's kinda hard where to draw the line between a fan, and a person who only likes it, especially if they claim to be a fan/not a fan. If it were easy, the problem would already be solved.

Here's the dictionary.com definition of "fan."

Enthusiastic. That's the key word in there. I have to admit I might be contradicting myself the more I write this, and that may be the problem this site has had for a long time. There is no device telling you how many fan arts of Balto you post in order to become a fan, or how many semi to non-related stuff you post in order not to be a fan. People have to decide that for themselves, and people...have their own opinions on such things. And BAM! Explosion of fights, flames, and wars reek havoc on innocent members...Bum bum buuuum!

To be honest...I don't even know if I'm a fan according to my gallery. But if I delete every non-related picture from my gallery, does that make me a fan? I guess it's up to me since I drew this stuff right? Ok, now I'm confused.
