Well, harry potter got more intense with its series as well.

Harry Potter was never written with children in mind; Rowling said so straight-out. She didn't even know what was or wasn't suitable for kids when she was one herself. And yes, she said that too.

I would like to say, for the record, that a Balto sequel (fan-created or otherwise) which can't stay within the G boundaries its predecessors honored in terms of violence and/or which contains language unsuitable for young ears is a bad idea.

If we make it too kid-friendly, it'll be less enjoyable for the adults. Shrek's a U (or a 'G' to you Americans) and that has risque language and jokes aimed towards adults. Same with many - usually older - family films. In Balto 1 there's even risque language (Nikki: "That son of a-"), which makes older audiences feel more appreciated. And it's the same with violence. The Lion King was violent, and families of all ages stil love it. Same with Balto - there was blood erupting from his neck when Steele threw him against the rock. In Don Bluth's Secret of NIMH, there was a lot of violence - stabbing and blood intact. Kids mostly won't get the jokes or pay much attention to the language anyway - and the violence can be disturbing, but it makes the film more interesting for them and more enoyable for thr adults. so don't get your knickers in a twist, and let these guys write the film how they want to write it ;D

Shrek is actually rated PG, as are Alpha and Omega and Tangled.

Shrek is rated U (suitable for all here) - same with Alpha and Omega. America is obviously much stricter with ratings than Europe is.

All I'm saying is that swearing is neither consistent with the spirit the Balto films were created in, nor beneficial to the project. Even for Steele it would be out of character. Well, maybe not Steele, but just about any other character in the series. Violence I have no problem with as long as it's not the whole gut-spilling, severed-limb horrorfest which you see filmmakers these days throwing in for the heck of it. I grew up on Don Bluth movies, and they were pretty edgy for kids' movies in their time. But is swearing really necessary? That's all I'm saying. Show me that it is and I'll shut up.

And yet the original filmmakers didn't have Steele swear. Or any character.

Not having the dogs talk and not having them swear are two totally separate things. I'm talking about honoring the spirit of the original movies, and particularly the characters, who were role models by design. Swearing would not do this, it would only turn them into corruptions of their original selves, contorted to suit the whims of a group who do not even necessarily constitute the majority (or even a substantial minority) of those who still enjoy the movies. In short, it would be the opposite of what any sequel, fan-made or otherwise, ought to be.

Funny, as I recall we already had a script. Where were you when we had that going?
I can see some good aspects of the new script, I'll give it that. But it has a bunch of stuff that does not mesh with its end statement about honoring the previous movies. In fact, I detect a few things that would have to be deleted for it even to be allowed on the forums, or the projects section. Someone goofed.

Personally, I really dont see a reason for swearing. The first movie got by just fine without it, and there were plenty of situations in it that would have warrented it.

Nice to hear someone else with sense.
And there's other stuff that it could do without. In fact, a certain non-essential part of the plot actually disqualifies the existing script from being site-legal. I should have spoken up sooner.

Edit: Since I know certain people (Kiko) are trying to blackmail me into backing down, I will say this now: I have no interest, and never did, in taking over the project. I only want to keep it faithful to the original spirit of the Balto movies, and within the rules of this site. And at least part of the content I am trying to keep out, steet promised years ago that he would not lax the rules on any further.

Second Edit: If any mods want to know what the fuss is about now that the script in question has been relocated (although the forums still should not be used to direct people to it, indirectly or otherwise), both I and Solaris have copies.

In light of the recent discussion in here and skimming through your (most recent) script, I'd just like to remind you of these rules;

Quote:
1. No swearing - We want to keep this a kid friendly site. Sexual content is also forbidden, as well as mate talks, even in private messages.

Quote:
17. No debates on sexual matters. They are even worse than political talks, and quickly come into wars. Any reference to deviant-sexual content, whether in text or images, including the "Kodi + Kirby" type of stuff seen here, is not allowed anymore.

Have it in your story by all means, but it can't be allowed on here.

There is currently no intent of actually posting the story as a fanfic on here. At least none that I'm aware of.

Ah, but those aren't the fanfic rules. They're the site rules, with admittedly the exception of fanfics, because those now come with warnings.

The point UK's trying to make, I think, is that the Forums (and I dare say the Projects section as well, seeing as he is that section's moderator) is no place for profanities or deviant sexual content. In practice, that would apply to anything which people are being widely directed to from those places, since links invariably lead to discussion, as we've already seen.

As I said elsewhere, and as I'm sure you have access to, Bassist, I think the script is fine but for a few changes that need to be made. You will recall, I am sure, that when we were working on the script as a collaboration, my input and ideas greatly benefitted the endeavor. So I ask only that same open-mindedness about my input now. So far, I'm afraid, I haven't found it.

And though some will say that I am trying to "take the project hostage," as has already been claimed, I will say this anyway. If this keeps up, the matter will undoubtedly turn into a flame war, and steet and the mods will have no choice but to shut it down. Now I know you and I don't see eye-to-eye on everything, but I will consider you my friend regardless of your views on this matter. You know from your experience of me, I hope, that I am no liar. And as a friend, and an honest one, I don't want to see your time go to waste. Nor do I wish to see the mods' time, or steet's, wasted resolving a matter so clear-cut in the rules and so easily solved.
