"What did you say?" Maya whispered. She felt confused, and could tell Fen felt the same. SHe didn't excell at learning new languages, and conversations were beyond her, so she felt left in the dark.

"First I said 'nothing', then I said I was in French Immersion after she asked me how I knew so much." Tessa replied.
Mrs. Beadle handed out workbooks, and told the class to start at page one.
"Le maman, le papa, le chien, le chat et bonjour? Wow. I reaaaaallllllllllllllyyyyyyy am not looking forward to the rest of the french year. I learned this stuff in kindergarten!" she scowled. Nevertheless, she started working, and finished the page in thirty seconds flat.
"Guess you can come out here onto my lap Kale. Make sure you're not seen though, ok."
In a flash, Kaylum leaped from the compartment and settled on his human's lap. He seemed relieved to be out.

Lil, please try to make your posts longer. Actually, this goes for all of us. Try to make your posts atleast 4 lines long, but please, try your hardest to reach two paragraphs, or more. Maya nodded, and pulled out her own book. Even page one was difficult for her. The words blurred on the page, becoming random squiggles and marks, or long lines of gibberish. "Can I look at your answers?" she asked, leaning over slightly so Tessa could hear her barely audible voice.
"Can I come out too?" Fen asked. Maya nodded, and whispered, "Yes." Gratefully, he slipped out of her stuffy pocket, his tiny nose twitching. His small claws dug into Maya's leg, and she carefully shifted him into a position where it wouldn't smart quite as much.
"Sorry," Fen whispered.
"It's fine," Maya murmured softly, trying to not move her lips that much. Others seeing her, and thinking she was talking to herself wasn't exactly the best way to begin French class, although it might have made an interesting gossip topic.

"Pssh, sure why not?" Tessa grinned. "But you're alone on the test." She quickly snatched back the workbook as Mrs. Beadle looked their way.
"Having trouble girls."
"Nono, we're just fine." Tessa stuttered. There was just something about that woman that gave her the creeps.
As soon as the teacher had turned away, she handed the book back to Maya. Ms. Beadle quickly whirled around, as if to shout "aha, I've caught you in the act", but when she caught sight of Kaylum, she freaked.
"A RAT! THERE'S A RAT IN MY CLASSROOM!"

"Crap," Maya whispered. She had seen only Kaylum, but seeing Fen wasn't to long off. Sensing what she wanted, Fen slipped into her pocket, levaing only his tail out. Maya pushed it in for him, and tried to lok startled and frightened, like most people where. "What now?" Maya whispered.

Kaylum tried to wriggle out of sight, but somehow Mrs. Beadle's keen eyes managed to spot him in Tessa's bag. Tessa wondered why she even needed spectacles.
"Get that rat out of the classroom NOW. Unless you want to be suspended for the rest of the YEAR!" she screamed.
The woman was in hysterics. Her eyes were wide with fright and looked eerily bright against her flushed skin.
"Throw it out of the class. NOW! Or face SUSPENSION! Walk out with the rat unscathed and you'll never attend this school ever AGAIN!"
Tessa got up and walked out of the classroom.
"He's not a RAT. He's a SQUIRREL."
"Impudent brat!" Mrs. Beadle hissed.

Maya was stratled by the teacher's reaction. "Can I use the restroom?" she asked, raising her hadn. SHe wanted to see what Tessa and Kaylum would do about this. Mrs. BEadle was still livid and scared, and sensing her nasty thoughts, Fen poked his head out.

Tessa sat in the bathroom stall, her knees hugged to her chest and the toilet seat down. The small squirrel perched on her shoulder was pacing back and forth.
"Someone got me in trouble today." she scowled.
"Hey, I'm not the one who was cheating with Maya."
"That wasn't cheating! Jeez, you should've stayed in the stupid bag where you belonged."
Kaylum sighed, his tail twitching and his eyes looking unusually bright, even for those of a squirrel. Tessa could tell he was on the verge of tears.
"How was I supposed to know that woman had an intense pyschological intense fear of rodents? I'm not that ugly.... am I?"
Tessa could tell he was thinking of Angel and her lustrous pelt, black as night and Clover, with his pure white one. Sure, a black tiger was a little over the top in her opinion, as well as a white wolf, but they had an air of magnificence to them. Kaylum was just..... cute. A bit twitchy with soft fuzzy fur, and big shining green eyes.
"Of course not. She only saw your snout, and assumed that since you were a rodent, you were a rat. Don't worry, you're perfect to me. But I'm still pissed at you. Just saying."
"I know." he sighed, trying to feign guilt. He didn't succeed.

Not waiting for an answe, Maya hurried out, hoping the old hag of a French teacher wouldn't notice Fen sticking his head out of her pocket. She hurried to the bathroom, where she heard talking. She paused outside the door where it had come from. "Tess? Kaylum?" she called.
Fen, wishing to be a rat no longer, slid ot of her pocket, and crawled down Maya's leg. Once on teh ground, he was back into his regular form, a cat.

"I doubt it...." Kaylum purred. "Y'see, she's very..... refined. And well behaved."
"I'm sure." Tessa muttered under her breath.

"We didn;t get kicked out," Maya said, choosing to ignore Kaylum. "We just had to use the ''bathroom''" she said, emphasis on word. "We wanted to know what you're gonna do now. You have to go back to class, but Kaylum..." she broke off.

She slung her bag over her shoulder, and started heading back to class.
"No. second. chances." she muttered.
