SIMBA, people! The only one Kiara disobeys is Simba! She has no screen time with Nala throughout Simba's Pride. Pay attention to the movie.

Jeez Brown you just pointed out another similarity between WQ and SP.

And if people aren't admiring both Kiara and Aleu for disobeying their fathers (what lovely role models), they're hating them for disobeying their "parents". (reasons why i hate both)

Why thank you, Roiffalo. I know my movies, or at least the ones I grew up on.

I loved Simba's Pride as a kid, but that's because I was too young to know any better. I watched it last year and despised it, but my despising it started a long time ago. I can't stand it.

The people who made the first film, after seeing the success of it, should've done a sequel.

Those people who did Simba's Pride... If it's true, that the people who made The Lion King don't recognize Simba's Pride as 'canon', gee, I can't blame them.

I've read fanfics that are better than SP!

I don't hate her necessarily, but she really annoyed me at the beginning and then grew on me a little. She was naive, and Simba was a horrible father, but still.

It's probably been mentioned before in this topic, but I think Kiara was never much more than a pawn. We see Simba baby her, then Zira use Kovu to get to her, so Disney put so much energy I to the plot that they didn't bother to flesh out (m)any of the characters. So I think she wouldn't have been as annoying if we'd gotten to see her develop more, but then again: it's hard to say.

I don't really like Kiara, or hate her, but the more I think about it, the more I wonder why people think Kiara is a disobedient and bratty child. I like to think she got fed up of her father's over-protectiveness and the whole sneaking into the outlands thing was like an act of rebellion. She was a kid, and didn't know any better.
Also, how can you think SHE'S bratty when she only disobeyed one lion (who was being seriously over-protective) (Actually she seemed quite obedient to her mum, Nala's probably a much better parent XD) while SIMBA disobeyed TWO grown relatives, and went into the graveyard, just to prove how brave he is. And trust me, I don't think Mufasa and Sarabi were bad parents. I don't hate Simba for doing that, but I don't hate Kiara for it too.
I guess she was still only just an adult in SP, a bit like Rapunzel's age, so she wasn't fully developed or wisened or anything, though she learnt that fighting would only bring both prides to destruction, without anyone singing to her about it and banging it into her head. She has her dumb moments, but every character gets one of those moments where you hate them xD And I always thought her fur was a bit of a mixture of Simba and Nala's, not exactly like Simba's. It's got some peach in it, so it looks more orangey, or at least that's what I think...-oh god why do I ramble on about everything >.< *facedesk*-

I don't hate her. She as a cub is a bit of a brat but as she grows up she learns what's good. Her father told her " we are one" yet he started a war with the outsiders. Luckily she was mature enough to say " look if we are one then why are we at. War" i know it's not that exactly just the point. So I don't like her as a cub but as a adult she's okay.

Kiara is okay but she became a brat because of her overprotective father, Simba.

I don't hate Kiara, but I don't love her either.

Kiara is good but reminds me too much of Aleu from Balto.

^ I have to agree here, she did overall, if that's safe to say. Both disliked their fathers at points in the movies, but then they learnt better after growing up a little. The only thing that wasn't similar is Aleu didn't fall in love at any part in WQ, which was a relief because she was annoying enough, god knows what she would be like if she'd fallen in love and her father didn't approve of it. (I would have probably been lying on the floor twitching) Perhaps one of them was based off the other (I cannot remember currently which movie was first, WQ or SP), perhaps, but I do think there is a strong amount of originality in the animation world, despite the fact that often you find characters that are similar to others.

Back on Kiara herself-

She was a little brattish, but merely because her father Simba banned her from going anywhere near the Outlanders territory, and him disapproving of Kovu later on in the film, and ultimately starting war between the two prides after telling Kiara "We are One". But yeah, I have to say I'm 50/50 sided on this one. Truthfully, I think she was an okay and interesting character, but after watching Simba's Pride, straight away I could relate her to Aleu from Balto without a shadow of a doubt. If she had been more developed in the movie (a long with a LOT of the other characters) opinions MIGHT have been different, and I do think she needed more screen time with her mother, Nala (Oh lookie, similar to Wolf Quest again, because Aleu needed more screen time with her mother Jenna).

I think Kiara is a bit annoying a weak willed. Yet again, I understand why people like her.

I'm going to have to agree with all of Brown's points, cause honestly, they're correct in my opinion.

...Why are some of you admiring her for disobeying her parents? You do know that's not a good thing, correct? For those of you saying she had no freedom because she had over-protective parents, you obviously don't know what real-life overprotective parents are like. Just because one of your parents worries for your safety a bit too much doesn't mean you can't do what you like. It just means you have to be more careful to make them feel at ease that you're fine and well. Kiara had plenty of "freedom", she just should have been more careful (and that's painfully obvious by her naiveness throughout the film).

All in all, I think Aleu from WQ and Kiara are pretty much exactly the same. They're looked up to for disregarding the rules and their fathers, and the consequences are non-existant. Which is why they're looked up to. In real life, disrespecting your parents doesn't earn you a gold star. It gets you grounded, end of story. I don't really think that's something people should be admiring.

You're points are as correct as mine - even though everyone here is entitled to their own. Problem is, some of you, as Moki pointed out, disobeying your parents is really a bad thing. I'm sure everyone on this site has disobeyed their parents at one time or another. I know I did, and in doing so there were consequences. It comes with the disobedience.

True, no parent is perfect, but when they tell us not do something that is wrong, it is not because they're trying to be controlling. They're trying to protect us, to keep us from making mistakes. Disobedience and mistakes ALWAYS have consequences, consequences we all have to learn from, provided we choose to do so.

In Wolf Quest, Aleu ran away, but there were no consequences. Who would want to admire someone who did that, but didn't go through a consequence? Seems rather pointless and foolish. In Simba's Pride, there are no consequences Kiara goes through when she goes to the Outlands after Simba tells her not to, even though he gives her no reason as to why the Outlands are forbidden. He avoided Kiara's question entirely. Not exactly good parenting.

Some might say that Mufasa didn't give Simba a reason for not going to the 'shadowy place'. But he DID say that it was 'beyond our borders'. Even for a cub, Simba should have known that such a saying implied 'dangerous', but like a curious and adventerous cub, he went there anyway, brought Nala with him, and they almost get killed by hyenas until Mufasa saved their lives.

Now, when Mufasa confronts Simba, he does scold him - quite well, I might add - and he doesn't give off some stupid song the way Simba does to Kiara in Simba's Pride. There is no explanation as to why Zira and her followers are exiled because they followed Scar. And really when you think about it, exiling a bunch of lionesses who followed their KING, even when he was in the wrong, was a dumb thing to do. The writers did not give Simba's Pride any real realistic thought at all. They just went with it and put in a bunch of stuff that made absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Bottomline is, there is a FINE line between disobeying for curosity's sake, and disobeying to prove a point that could result in dying.

King Mufasa put it very well: Being brave, doesn't mean you go LOOKING for trouble.

Admiring someone, real or fictional, for disobeying their parents is a bad thing, especially when real or fictional person has no consequences for disobeying. That's not something to admire, but something to avoid.

Agreed.

And sorry for my late reply, but I didn't really think it was worth making a post for such a short response. But now I have something to add. Along with everything you said in your last post (in a nutshell, WQ and SP are sequel fails), I have something to add from something Hunt said:

Moki Hunter wrote:

If not something worse. Like wounded, kidnapped, or dead. Not saying that every parent is in the right in being against their child doing a certain thing. Some parents do keep their kids from living a little for reasons such as religious beliefs (just an example, don't read go in depth with it *read the rules*) or fear they'll get hurt from doing certain activities (like horseback riding for example). Reasonable 'over protectiveness' causes, but that doesn't give the kid the right to hate their parents and disobey them anyway, and that's the vibe I get from these two characters. People will then only get hurt, be it from wounds or feelings. And one day you'll be able to do those things if you really want to, so wait until then. Believe it or not a few years or less isn't all that long to wait and it'll pass fast.
